My almost ten year old daughter has written on the inside of her forearm, in ink: "Jonathan rocks"
"Who's Jonathan?" I asked.
She quickly hid her arm. "Oh, no one. Just a kid in my class."
I asked her to wash it off (just because it looks weird to have big letters written in ink on your arm).
She later told me he is "cute and funny and smart and nice."
I don't remember having crushes in the fourth grade. Did anyone else?

how many BJs you've given to boys.
Or how many boys you've given BJs to? Something like that. Oral sex indicators.

19. Some stuff I found on gel bracelets |
|
"Sex bracelets are back - and kids are using them with out their parents knowing what they are doing. Jelly bracelet fashion accessories have been around since the 80's. But instead of a fashion statement, they may be making a statement about your kid's sex life. These bendable pieces of colored rubber have become a sexual code to many teens. Here's a common breakdown: Yellow: hugging Purple: kissing Red: lap dance Blue: oral sex Black: intercourse In a game called “snap,” if a boy breaks a jelly bracelet off a girl's wrist, he gets a sexual coupon for that act. It's become such a problem in some middle schools in Florida that districts started banning the bracelets."
Readers, several Web sites indicate that these gel bracelets are used as a way for students to trade sexual favors.

Fifth grade: the secret code was transmitted with tiny colored clothes pins. Can't remember what they all meant, but it was all implied, not acted upon.

I remember the bad old paddling days. I got my fair share of "swats."
Paddled for kissing a boy. ROFL! Sorry, that's just so absurd it's funny.

if you don't have one, I highly recommend them for the humor value if nothing else. After washing off "Jonathan rocks" she came in here and said "we have to make up a secret handshake."
I'm ALWAYS game for secret handshakes, so she made up this elaborate hand game thing which ended in us snapping and yelling "TOTALLY!" then "European kissing" (each cheek very flamboyantally--can't spell that).
Plus you can train them in how to make your coffee. They love that.

Wait until she's a few months shy of 13.
I remember having crushes at that age and earlier, but I was pretty geeky until 9th grade. When my daughter tells me she likes a boy, I ask, "Is he nice? Is he smart? Is he cute?" (Funny is very good too.) She always answers yes to all of them, so at least she has good taste.
She doesn't get to "date" yet or anything, but there's been several boys at school she has "gone out with" since 5th grade which is just basically a pairing up in the hallways thing and occasional phone calls. She's very supervised, so I figure it's no harm at this age. I Hopefully, this will make her feel more secure with herself and make good choices in a few years when things start to possibly get more serious.
