Poll question: Which nuance of the Internet pisses you off the most?
Edited on Thu Oct-28-04 09:03 PM by D__S
Virus', Trojans and hackers are a given. Annoyances and peeves are one thing; having your computer trashed is another.

Spam I can deal with.

Pop-ups are the worst followed by any website that masturbates with the Flash intros (mostly entertainment type stuff... bands, music, movies).
Making it worse... when you have to fumble around looking for the "skip music" button.

Another close one...

Websites that try to cram every bit of info and links possible on the home page (mostly news type websites). If I can't find what I'm looking for in less than 30 seconds, I'm outta there.

1. Ads with video/music
It pisses me off when I have to sit and wait to view a website because of some damn fancy add.

2. when I downloaded a Windows update a week or so ago, it put
in an automatic pop-up blocker....aaahh...how do you spell relief?

EXCEPT NOW MY DAMN COMPUTER KEEPS CRASHING....EVERY SINCE THE DOWNLOAD...and the strange thing is it does this in the afternoon, while I'm not home. I turn it off after my early am use. When I come home at night, 3 nights out of five, it has crashed..
maybe it's not the download from Microsoft...maybe it is THE MAGIC LANTERN???

14. Thanks for reminding me.
Another thing that irks me is when I attempt to play or download a RM, MOV or WMV file, I get a message that I need to update my software.

You can't polish a turd, so why would I want anymore crap on my computer?

3. Ads
that pop open on the text that you are reading. These are on the same page as the text, not pop ups

4. Websites that trap you
Some of them don't allow you to leave, and I have to shut down the browser to get out. Argh.

5. Now I can't even click them off
to get them off my screen. They just turn into pop unders.
Very irritating - who would even buy or do business with these jerks.

6. What pisses me off above virtually anything else
Edited on Thu Oct-28-04 09:01 PM by End of all Hope
are pop-ups that offer software to eliminate ads or pop-ups. DAMN YOU, I'M NOT GOING TO PAY YOU MONEY TO FIX A PROBLEM THAT YOU'RE CAUSING.

Reminds me of the old door-to-door vacuum cleaner salesmen that would pour dirt on your floor after making their pitch.

9. DHTML ads that cover the site you're trying to look at
with the tiny 'x' at the top right to close it. Even worse, the ones that scroll downward as I scroll the content.

12. YES!
Also, ads on websites that play movie/TV trailers WITH SOUND.

Not good for at work.

The Onion is particularly bad for that.
