I remember playing The Band on 8 track.
Yeah, I am old. I don't remember ever seeing this film, but I just might have. I admit... we all inhaled. And more.

Anyway... that led me to think (ooh, a bad sign).. .what other good concert films have I missed?

I do have the Springsteen concerts -- great, but can't beat Bruce live.

However... list on!

Scorsese's hard to beat. I really liked "The Weight" studio sequence with the Staples in that fillum.

6. X - The Unheard Music
Most entertaining music movie ever (not strictly a concert film... more like a documentary).

10. I'm so pleased that there is such good footage of X.
I still prize my Betamax copy of "The Decline of Western Civilization" by Penelope Spheeris, also not a concert film per se.

7. Tout le Matins du Monde
All the mornings of the world. Not quite a concert film, but all about the music. The simulated playing by the male lead was badly done, but...

8. Talking Heads' "Stop Making Sense," Laurie Anderson's "Home of the Brave"
but I have wondered since these emerged if they were too much of their time.

I don't think so. I think both hold up, and are valent still.

11. The Last Waltz...
is my favorite concert film. I saw it in the theater when it came out, watched it about 20 times on HBO and own the DVD. I'm thinking that after I see the Vote For Change concert and documentary on Sundance this Saturday, I may have a new favorite. (I was at the finale in DC and it was amazing.)

13. Massive personal touchstone for me, that one
Saw it several times at the Wilma Theatre in Missoula, MT in 1979.

Still watch it today, repeatedly.

Love "The Kids Are Alright."

14. I used to see it at the Aurora Cinemas
It was often the midnight movie. Then they would play it at the Neptune on occasion, sometimes paired with Quadrophenia, if I was lucky. :D

Edited on Thu Oct-28-04 10:01 PM by edbermac
Great music but all the infighting amongst the Beatles during the film has probably lead them and their representatives to suppress it...

Last Waltz wasn't bad. Van Morrison splitting his seams was worth the price of admission.

24. George Harrison Tribute Concert
I loved it, his son looked so much like him when he was younger it made me want to cry. Just hearing all of the old songs reminded me of growing up with that music - very nostalgic.
