I walked out of my house tonight. Where can I go?
I'm in a hipster coffeehouse in Chicago, wondering where to go. Any suggestions?

4. any colleges nearby?
I'll bet you could get away with sleeping on a couch in a lounge. Though a lot of campuses are more attentive to security now than when I was in college....friends used to sack out in dormitories when they were "between" living arrangements...

8. a Woman's Shelter for the night?
Edited on Thu Oct-28-04 11:03 PM by Kennethken
I don't know how well-prepared you were for walking out, so I'm not sure what the best option would be. That's just the first thought I had.

Heck, you're internet-connected, you could spend some time surfing and find an option that would work for you, I expect.

Best Wishes

on edit: if you have a credit card in hubby's name, you could stay at the best hotel you can think of. :D

9. What about a hotel?
In Chicago, I'd want to be someplace where it's safe. Can you swing that for a night until you can contact some friends?

Otherwise I like the woman's shelter idea. Ask a policeman if they can give you any information on nearby shelters.

Good luck.

16. Nothing lame-o about rethinking impulse
If you really want out...set yourself up to leave and leave knowing you will have a roof over your head.

Hang in there...I know this has been building over time...but leave in a way where your survival is assured.

Hugs, my friend.

17. It might take several tries
It's like dipping your toe in the water. Next time, may be a longer time.

It does matter because we get a finite amount of time as far as we know. Might as well try to make it as enjoyable as possible, just in case. But big change is scary.

Good luck! :)

19. NSMA's advice is excellent.
Also please make provision for your son when you leave, and preferably take him with you. He is very young and won't understand.

20. I want to give a second to what's above.
What NSMA said that is. I'm in the similar boat and it's taking an extremely long time for everything to come into place in order to split up- bad enough we may have to divorce and stay under the same roof for a couple more years. Makes me scream inside with the way he is, but I have my children, I have myself (didn't always have that), I have goals I'm working toward to make it happen, the house is big enough (and I'll get some money out of my share of that eventually), and I have another job interview Wednesday.
Life is hard sometimes. Damn hard. Take care of yourself, Sweetie.
