Just back from the Courtney Love concert... everyone's safe
Edited on Fri Oct-29-04 03:46 AM by Dookus
wow... what a show.

The opener was Suicide Girls, who evidently have a website that made them famous. It was mostly violent lesbian porn staged to old rock. They don't sing - they just do burlesque laden with hula hoops, thongs, plenty of bulk-purchased nipple-tape and firm young bodies. They were actually quite entertaining.

They were followed by a guitar band called Icarus Line. The lead singer was really hot and the drummer rocked, but the 562 guitarists (ok, it was 3, but I like to exaggerate) were a bit um... disconnected. But mostly enjoyable. While I expected Courtney to be pelting the audience with beer bottles, it was THIS act that took that chore.

Then the headliner - The fabulous Ms. Love. She came out with a dozen roses which she tossed individually to the audience. She wore a white frock which frankly, was a little tight. She's become quite "voluptuous" and it looks good on her. The fake tits were pushed up and shown off to great effect. The dress would've shown severe panty-lines had she worn any panties (the back lighting showed the lack thereof).

She had an all-girl band that was quite serviceable. The all-girl theme was carried through by the audience, who pelted her with brassieres and panties. I was 20 feet from the stage, so I didn't get to see exactly how the panties were being removed and flung, but Courtney made a beautiful shrine to lesbian fandom by hanging each and every attirement from her mic stand. By the end of the show, it was surprising that the stand stood.

Her first encore was awesome - a great rendition of "House of the Rising Sun". She also made fun of my little town, Santa Cruz, by joking about all our "hippies" and then stating how much she "fucking hates" hippies. The hippy audience cheered, but that's hippies for ya.

She also talked about her "difficult" year. I suppose we were supposed to feel sympathy for her one-woman crime-spree. But we loved her anyway.

The woman is a rock goddess. Her attitude, presence and voice are truly awesome. I feel very lucky to have seen her in such a small venue.

She IS very talented. I really hope that she gets her personal life together- The first time she got clean and sober, she looked SO pretty, still had an edge, but was well- behaved for the most part, and her true personality came out. She really has a lot to offer when she has herself together! It seems to me that for awhile now she has been very sad. Is it just me?

2. No, it's not just you
Edited on Fri Oct-29-04 03:40 AM by Dookus
in fact, from talking to all the people at the show, the consensus was that she's an extremely talented, beautiful woman who's a train-wreck.

I think she's a great rock star and a terrific actress - but she's so wound up in herself that nothing else seems to matter. She so thrives on her own pain (as did her husband) that the self-indulgence is understandable, yet pitiful.

3. *nod*
She's the type that I always think looks like she needs a good hug. God, that sounds patronizing.

I heard and read so many interviews when she was sober, and she is SO much more intelligent that she's given credit for. I am sure she has a high IQ. Obviously, she's not in the "place" to be a very good mother at the moment, but it's very clear that she does love her daughter very much.

I'm sure there's hope for her. She got sober once and she can do it again. And I really respect anyone who can pull themselves together like that. I can't imagine how hard that must be.

4. That panty-covered mike stand would have gone for millions on eBay.
I love Love's song "Rock Star" from the second Hole album "Live Through This." I went to the same college she did and she nails the counterculture there mercilessly.

5. Hehehe...
at the end of the show, she tossed some back into the audience, and then a few people near the stage grabbed the rest when she was gone. it was quite a sight :)

9. she is hard to figure
beautiful, intelligent, talented, funny, seems to have tried to raise a cool kid. But there is something so troubled about her, I can't tell if it's schtick, or serious emotional problems or both. I hope she can get her shit together.

14. sorry
I don't know the names of most of her songs. I *DO* know she did Rockstar, though, and as mentioned earlier, a cover of "House of the Rising Sun".

No stage dive, either.

16. She was on the Tonight Show where she said she registered as
a Republican. I'm hoping she was fucking w/ the audience. I got my recent issue of Rolling Stone (where they endorsed and interviewed Kerry) and there's a picture of her wearing a t-shirt that says 'Paris for President: Smarter than Bush' or something like that. Anyone know the scoop on there.

Saw Hole some years back for the "Live Through Live" tour at a club called "The Abyss" in VA Beach. The show was really good, but she was definitely on some shit. She was hanging out afterwards, playing CDs and we all went to where she was to try to get autographs. She said she'd only give me one if I'd kiss her on the mouth. I said I have a boyfriend, but kissed her on the cheek. She signed my t-shirt, "Fucking Repressed Lesbian. I am now dead. Love, Whoretney." She also signed my concert ticket. This was about a year about Kurt died. I have the items in a shadow box. Whatever.

Edited on Fri Oct-29-04 09:58 PM by Kire
I hope that you won't tell on me

I used to whistle that tune in the halls when I was a janitor at my old middle school. I was a mess, myself at that time. I think I freaked out my boss pretty good. It's a quite haunting melody. (Softer, Softest - Live Through This)

18. I still like Courtney Love
I'll never forget bringing home a copy of "Live Through This" and putting it on the CD player one quiet Saturday morning. DH came downstairs almost immediately: "What in the HELL are you listening to?" The whole CD sounds like primal scream therapy.

I love it.

Julie
"go ahead, take everything, take everything, I want you to..."
