sigh... a good friend's daughter-in-law died this week
It's a convoluted relationship... I used to volunteer with an AIDS agency, and my assigned "buddy" was Jerry. His partner is Scott. Jerry died two and a half years ago, and I was with him for his last few days. His partner's son, Michael, was a real champ during this time - he treated Jerry like a step-father and couldn't have been a bigger help during Scott's trying time.

This week, Michael's wife got suddenly sick. She was 39 years old. However... she'd had a heart-lung transplant 10 years earlier due to Cystic Fibrosis. Her brother died of the disease years ago, and she got a special lease on life with the transplant. She was doing fine until last week when a simple lung infection hit her. A few days later, she was dead.

It's so sad. She was a very very sweet woman and her husband is a real doll. But I realize she lived twice as long as most CF patients do and I guess I'm happy for that. But still, it's a crying shame.

2. Thanks...
I wasn't close with Kim - I'd only met her on a couple of occasions. But I feel terrible for her husband, her father-in-law and her parents.

Yes, 39 is way too young.

3. Michael sounds like a remarkable man.
With a great capacity to love. I hope he grieves as long as he needs, and then shares that love again. It's so needed.

4. :-(
I'm so sorry to hear this. I've heard that CF is a painful disease. I'll keep her and her family in my prayers.
