I got an e-mail from a friend to a Web site called
My President the Cowboy. Now if you click on this link, turn your computer's speakers down or off or you'll be blasted with that god awful Midi music crap reactionaries seem to love so much.
Anyway, why I question the reactionary sense of reality is that, without exception, all the "cowboy" heroes cited on this Web site are actors and our esteemed pResident. Whoever put up this Web site neglected an actor who played cowboys many times on screen and was also a
bona fide hero,
Audie Murphy. He wasn't that good of an actor
per se yet he was the most decorated GI of World War II.
Nor is this the only Web site of this kind that my friends of a reactionary bend have linked me to.
On a personal note, the friend who e-mailed this little jaunt into fantasyland used to consider himself something of a left-wing radical. In high school in the Seventies he co-edited an underground paper of Marxist tendencies called "The Watchful Dragon." I don't know where or when he went wrong. Oh well, I hadn't seen him in at least ten years until this summer. It was good seeing him again.
