1. Not too far from the truth.

There were posters all over Florida saying that if you registered to vote with the NAACP (gee, I wonder what demographic they were targetting), it is probably invalid, since they lost their license to register people. Blatantly untrue, but it might keep people from showing up at the polls.

2. Sadly, this article is even truer than that.

I think it's in Al Franken's book that he mentions a specific instance where they put up a poster that had the wrong date for voting, a day late just like the Onion article.
