ugghhh..

Don't you hate that feeling when you've been writing code all day, then you try to talk to a person? I have a hard time making the shift to complete sentences....

Man, I'm such a nerd.

How you have to say things right the first time, instead of editing yourself 20 times until it makes sense.

4. No, not FORTRAN, aaagghhh!
I am struggling with Fortran 90 right now. What freakin' stupid hack of a goadawful language, Fortran 77.

I don't really care if there's a modest speed advantage over C or C++. At least those languages actually have functions to handle strings and file I/O that are useful!!

I've also spent a lot of time using garbage collected languages like Java, Python, and Matlab, and the memory allocation system (and pointer hiding) in F90 is unbelievably awkward to use.

:puke:

I find it especially hard when you're first trying to learn the language you're coding in.

Started on mvs and mpe systems. Rexx was useful back then. Finished on z/os on z hardware. 64 gigs of ram was the biggest when I retired. I know they are capable of 256 now and possibly 512 gb of main mem with 6megs of l2 per chip. Nothing beats a mainframe for linear computing.

I loved telling the guys out of school how retro linux was. I keep up with a few of the guys who worked for me and give them a hard time about linux and aix running in mainframe partitions.

I had an ee background and used machines for modeling switching gear performance. The sr guys were sa's. A modern mainframe is something to behold.

Forgot my favorite os/370 and JCL..
