Spousal voting update: My wife IS voting after all, but not for Prez.
Woo-hoo! My adored wife, who unfortunately supports the Repubs, has changed her mind, and decided to vote after all. She hasn't decided whether to show up at the polls or submit her absentee ballot. But one thing is clear: She's not giving her vote to Bush! She won't vote for Kerry, either, but that's one less vote for B*sh! She'll just cast an undervoted ballot for the Republicans in local races. Fine by me. Washington is leaning to the Dems, so I don't have to worry that her votes are cancelling mine out. Maybe one day she'll come over completely from the dark side.

2. Yeah, I guess she has. We were both watching amusedly as
the Chimp blustered and flustered his way through another scripted oratorical blow-job, when she turned to me and asked me honestly: "Has there EVER been a good Republican President?" I said: "Of course, honey. Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt. You know." She said: "No, I mean in the Twentieth Century." I said: "Sure. Eisenhower." She said: "That's IT?" "Yep".

She also declared her admiration of Bill Clinton's speaking abilities when he was on the Daily Show.

Mmm. Warms the cockles of my heart. :-)

4. Well, since Teddy Roosevelt was President from 1901-1909

he was a 20th-century President.

Of course, being the trust-buster and conservationist that he was, he wouldnt recognize the Republican Party anymore. (He didnt then either, given that he ran on the Bull Moose ticket in 1912 when he broke away from the Republican Party.)

And Hoover probably deserves more respect than he gets. He was a very smart man and a good adminsitrator. He just couldn't give up the philosophy and prejudices of a lifetime when confronted with the Depression.

As for the rest, I think Eisenhower had some good instincts but let anti-communism run wild and Nixon's intellect was overcome by his personality disorders.

The rest were pretty much tools.

3. The spouse
I am happy for you. I really long to be able to say the same thing, that my husband is going to vote for Kerry. I will be so proud of him if he does, because he has been a Rep. since after Carter. This election has been a source of so much pain and heartache here! I haven't exactly been patient with him either (I even told him that if he votes for Bush and Bush wins, that the soldiers' blood will be on his hands). There is so much information out there to support a vote for Kerry, including "Going Up River", which we watched together. I am just HOPING that he will take the time to read it. Oh, I am so hoping that he will vote for Kerry. I know it is crazy, and he should be free to have his own opinion, but it seems so absolutely clear to me that I can't believe he doesn't agree with me. The last election was hard enough!! Thanks for the post.

5. I feel for you, Birthday. My wife is an intelligent woman who
was raised with the attitudes and prejudices of the wealthy 'born-agains'. For her to have come this far really is a miracle. I pray that your husband will do the right thing and vote for Kerry.
