I am in the country with no neighbor within a half mile and it is spooky out here at night. I am 200yards from the road and the drive is unlit. But, I STILL bought two bags of candy "just in case".

2. Got the same situation at my place.
We always buy candy, but we never get little tricksters visiting.

:-(

3. yeah, that happened at my old house
we were out in a secluded area with a long, very steep driveway. the only kids we got were the neighbors who came out of pity (?). Oh well, more Reeses for me!

4. And I'm planning not to be here on Halloween, to ensure that I get none.
Am going to a Kerry rally instead. Anyway, anyone who would come to my house around here would be a Bush-supporting parent's child. Maybe I should leave some papers for them to sign away their future income instead of candy.

11. I worked with a guy that always went to the movies.....
.... On Halloween. He just refused to participate. I would enjoy visits by little scarey monsters using extortion to get candy from me but it just doesn't happen here.

7. It's been 12 years
No one ever shows up. No kids out my way any longer. I am 150 feet off the road on 2 1/2 acres, everyone here has either 2 1/2 or 5 acres. We never get anyone.

WE still buy candy.

Isn't that dumb.

8. I'm in the burbs, and I get hardly any.
Something's changed. Used to get all ages between 4 and 10 p.m. Now we get the little critters from 4 to about 8, and 4 or 5 young teens till 9. Boy, times have changed.

13. I live a mile north of downtown Seattle, on a fairly well travelled street
Edited on Fri Oct-29-04 09:24 PM by mlle_chatte
right off the sidewalk. Lots of foot traffic. Been here 20 years, maybe 10 trick or treaters in all that time. Just not a kid-friendly neighbourhood.

On Edit: I buy candy every year, and find ways to give it to others the day after.

14. I won't get any, either.
I lived for 12 years with no neighbors, 3 miles from the nearest street light. I liked it that way.

When I had to move to town, I bought a tiny little place zoned industrial, with just one house next door, and empty lots across the street and on the other side. My front gate will be locked, and I don't have a porch light. I don't want any trick-or-treaters. I did my yearly duty supervising halloween frenzy with 32 ten year-olds all damned day today. I'm done.

16. For some reason, we don't
My first year here, I bought plenty of candy and got two trick-or-treaters. After that, I didn't even bother. Our town is messed up. Trick-or-treating is not held on Halloween and it is between the hours of 1 and 3 pm.

17. Halloween
is a barely known American custom here. However, we've been informed by our goddaughters that they, and four of their friends, will be at our door to trick-or-treat for Skittles and M&Ms around 6 p.m. Sunday. How's that for specific instructions?

18. Damned if you do, damned if you don't...
I bought a ton of candy one year...gave out about half of it. The next year I bought two bags. Ran out in 10 minutes and had to resort to the loose change tactic. :)
