"Classical Gas" who else likes this tune? |
|
Nice tune, everyone's done it and probably ubiquitous during the late sixties, but for an X-er who hasn't heard it much I kinda like it...
Your thoughts?

3. One of my all time favorites. |
|
A former boyfriend played it beautifully. He is a great musician. Lousy boyfriend, but a great musician.
And "Classical Gas" was definitely a favorite.

I'm afraid he was a bit of a one hit wonder, but the one hit was fantastic!

5. It Was Originally Done On the "Smothers Brothers Show" |
|
Masom Williams was a writer on that show, which was on CBS Sunday nights, right after Ed Sullivan's show.
One Sunday, the screen went black, and the words "3,000 years of art in 3 Minutes" appeared. As "Classical Gas" played, dozens of paintings were flashed on the screen.
As the song ended, the screen went black agai. The the following words appeared.
"3,000 years of art have now been permanently etched into your brain.
You are now cultured."

7. Oh, I loved that show! |
|
Do you remember how Pat Paulsen used to always run for president?
Tommy was always telling Dickie that "Mom always liked you best!"

6. I'm old enough to remember |
|
Mason Williams playing "Classical Gas" with a full orchestra on the Smothers Brothers Show.
He had a clear lucite guitar with goldfish swimming in it. For an 8-year-old, that was the coolest thing ever!

10. Amen on Herb Alpert & the TB. |

That's good stuff. I also had a Carl Perkins version of "Classical Gas" which I would play often. Majestic. Soaring. Those are my kinds of tunes. I think that's why my favorite song is "Rhapsody in Blue."

I remember Mason Williams re: the Smothers Brothers show also. And Pat Paulsen running for president. And IIRC, isn't that the show that had "Officer Judy"? And IIRC again, I think he later became Super Dave Osborne.

Bob Einstein, brother of comedian Albert Einstein.
(Note: brother Albert wisely changed his last name to Brooks.)
Both are a scream.
