Man, my knee is killing me...
Right knee, the area right above the patella. Hurts when I flex and extend my leg. Hurts just sitting here.

And, I have to put a floor down tomorrow. That's going to suck

Any ideas?

1. Not really, sorry.
I can sometimes get mine feeling a little better, by stretching my leg out and "cracking" it by moving my foot in either direction, hard.

YMMV though.

5. Well, for one thing it hurts.
Ha, ha, ha...

No, it really hurts right where the quadriceps tendon joins the patella. All I did after work today is veg on the couch and eat a piece of pumpkin pie. Nothing strenuous.

10. Take a good anti-inflammatory
Edited on Sat Oct-30-04 12:09 AM by robg
like naproxen. Motrin if ya don't have naproxen. Ice it. 20 minutes every two hours, max.

When mine hurts there, it is really an inflamation inside the joint, causing swellling, causing pressure on nerves ... you could have strained a ligament tho. Treatment roughly the same in either case.

Try not to over do it tomorrow. KNEELING IS VERY BAD!

13. Apologies to the wife
but she needs to cut you a break. How old are you? The older you are, the more susceptible to bursitus and other chronic joint ailments. It sucks, man, but that's just the reality of things. Kneeling puts a great deal of stress on all the structures of and surrounding the knee. Your knee is telling you it is weak.

4. Call in sick.
Asian flu, lice infestation or violent, contagious diarreah. Whatever it takes, my friend. :)

Kneeling on it all day is only going to make it worse

17. Oh, maybe just say you can't do it cause your knee is screwed?
I would understand, maybe your wife would too. You're both in pain and what is the hurry about a new floor? So it might not be pretty but there are too many other things to worry about when you are at this stage.

~I apologize. I thought you were talking about an outside job.

18. Problem is, I've played the knee card before.
Along with the

"but my alma mater's playing football today, and we never get PAC-10 out east"
"But, honey, I would rather spend the day taking you to a nice restaraunt"

cards.

The floor beckons, my friend, and she will not relent.

21. Your a sweetie
It so nice of you to take your wife out and shes going to have a baby. Allot of guys wouldn't do that for their wife. She must be a lucky woman. :hi:

7. My empathy, Squatch
I have had knee probs in the past, and actually still do.

You can get a knee strap that you place BELOW the patella...can be bought at most drug store chains. For some reason, it takes the stress and/or the pain away...event he docs don't know why it works, but it does. Sounds like you may have some patella tendonitis.

Look at this site to see the strap to get the idea...there's one for below the knee and another for above the knee (the above knee one is usually used to push the patella down..that's why am thinking the below the knee one would better for you.)

http://www.footsmart.com/Page.aspx?PageId=444

Do get your knee checked out....it could be symptomatic of a number of probs.
Good luck!

15. what do you think it is?
I have the same problem, with my right knee above the patella...I notice a lump there when it hurts, like there's a fluid buildup ...I've had it off and on for years and I have not been good to my knees)...Sometimes it hurts so bad I can hardly bend it, other times it does not hurt at all...I've actually considered posting a thread here under your identical title when it's killing me...weird, eh?

Someday someone will knock some sense into me and I'll go to the doctor about it I'd like to think!

straighten your knee out and try to lift your leg off the floor, keeping it straight. Does it hurt like SH^&?

20. Actually it's ok for now...
and the real pain comes from bending at the knee...like walking down stairs, and squatting? Forget it! Nothing seems to help, not even liniment oil...
When my leg is straight it's ok...even when my knee is killing me so maybe we have slightly different problems...

Good luck with your job coming up, knee pads will help some, I hope!

19. Get an elastic knee brace
You can get one at any drug store for about ten to fifteen bucks.

Then go to a hardware store and buy some good kneepads- Ace used to sell some great leather ones that had thick, soft lining.

22. Elevate it tonight. Take some alleve and sleep with it raised
with pillows so its essentially above your heart. Keep in mind, if theres fluid on it, it will take a few days, if not longer.

Its really important to stay off of it as much as you can and elevate it when you can as well. Ive had an inflamed knee and this is what helped me the most.
