Why did/do people hate Eminem??
It seems to me that people just blindly hated him because the media told you he was homophobic. None of these haters actually took the time to read through his lyrics or understand his messages.

Only now that he's been as blatant as possible about his political views do these people say "oooh I like that Eminem fellow".

I mean, cmon!

1. I've liked him for a long time...
Probably the best rapper in the MAINSTREAM right now. Excluding Mos Def and Talib Kwali of course.

p.s. And Big Pun RIP

2. A couple years ago I didn't like him.
Simply because I'm a mom and my son wanted to listen to him and I had heard that his lyrics were kind of x rated. Well, I happened to see his video for Cleaning out my closet and from that moment on it occurred to me that he's really pretty talented and I've liked him ever since.

3. I Think Some People Don't Get His Act
Or maybe I'm the one that doesn't get it. The most outrageous stuff that pisses people off always seems to me to be almost a parody of the super badass mofo rapper, and that personality is a put-on. A damn funny one, too; obnoxious, but so over-the-top obnoxious I can't take it seriously enough to be offended.

But what do I know? I'm a middle-aged white chick.

4. I think you are right
The people who hate him don't listen to the words or don't bother to listen to the message. Also a lot dismiss him because of his choice of words (he does use the F bomb quite a bit). Many just dislike him because it's rap music, because they dislike the style. Most don't understand him and they only hear what others say about him. I personally am not a huge fan of rap music however there are some cathy tunes and have become more open minded regarding it. Over the past 3 years or so some rap tunes have caught my attention and I like them. Em I believe, is a pretty good poet and he can tell a story quite well. Even went out and bought some of his CD's.

7. I don't like him
for the same reason that I don't like other pop celebrities.... they are childish, uneducated, non-scholarly, appeal to mass instincts, are narcissistic, pedestrian, self-absorbed, in it for the fame and money rather than to help others, gain knowledge about the world, do the right thing, advance morality, or promote kindness, and because they are immature, shallow, unsubstantive, and crass. The same reasons I don't read comic books, wear designer fashion clothes, suck on a pacifier, sleep with a teddy bear, watch anime, giggle on the telephone, get drunk and drive fast, go to sports events with my face painted and scream like a mad man, or watch soap operas. It's just a matter of taste. What one person enjoys, another thinks is idiotic. It's like food. I don't like fast food, others love it. I don't like country music or polka music or John Phillip Sousa, but other people adore those styles. Eminem, Madonna, Britney Spears, etc. simply seem vacuous to me. Their lyrics are silly and childish. It's just a matter of taste. Some like it and some don't. I realize that I am in the minority in that I do not enjoy pop culture. I don't like Friends, I don't like pop music, I hate Hollywood movies, I don't read Stephen King -- think his books are horribly childish -- and I don't go to Amusement parks. I know it's a minority view. But, so what? Why does everyone have to like the same things... or the things that you like? Why do you care that people don't like Eminem?

11. I think the term "not like" shows indifference which I understand
But people who hate him usually don't have a good reason.

17. Ever Hear This Song? It's Great!!
Sensitive Artist - King Missile

I am a sensitive artist.
Nobody understands me because I am so deep.
In my work I make allusions to books that nobody else has read,
Music that nobody else has heard,
And art that nobody else has seen.
I can't help it
Because I am so much more intelligent
And well-rounded
Than everyone who surrounds me.

I stopped watching tv when I was six months old
Because it was so boring and stupid
And started reading books
And going to recitals
And art galleries.
I don't go to recitals anymore
Because my hearing is too sensitive
And I don't go to art galleries anymore
Because there are people there
And I can't deal with people
Because they don't understand me.

I stay home
Reading books that are beneath me,
And working on my work,
Which no one understands

I am sensitive...
I am a sensitive artist...

9. There are a few types of homophobia
it can be a hatred, a dislike, or fear of homosexuals- or any of those things for oneself. It can be a learned thing, natural thing, or institutionalized thing.

Yes it comes from the greek word phobos - fear, but it's not a phobia in the same way agoraphobia or claustrophobia is. It's much more broad than that.

But yeah, it is thrown around too much. Probably as often as antisemitism is when israel is criticized.

perhaps to the greeks, hate and fear were the same thing.

It was also some of his lyrics.

But, Mosh is a great song/video.

19. Lyrics, yes, but in the context of the songs, they take on
a different meaning.

I'm a 46 year old, white, married, female, and longtime Ally, and what I heard from him didn't match the reputation at all.

I think there was some serious sarcasm that many didn't get, but I could be wrong.

Not ignoring his tendency to violence, though.

16. I do like him as an artist
I have his latest cd as well as the 8 mile cd. He does do a good job of portraying his art. Art can be offensive and great at the same time. I do think some of his songs are terrible though as far as being offensive to women, like "Superman".

I'm not crazy about songs about killing or beating up his girlfriend. It was some of the most hateful music I have ever heard.
