A textbook example of why I hate Republicans |
|
So, the Prophetess and I are out trying to get breakfast, and her car is almost out of gas, and we're trying to find a gas station. The only thing around in sight is a Sam's Club. We really don't have a choice, so we go in, and she asks some of the people at other pumps whether we can just have them scan their card so we can get gas-we don't know whether we have enough to find a station, and there are no other stations in sight at all. The Prophetes talks the woman next to us, whose answer is maybe there is another station somewhere. After having the situation repeated to her, again, all she can come up with is maybe there's another station nearby. ( I did notice, with no surprise, that she had a big W sticker on her SUV) We also get the same treatment from the guy running the pump. The thing that burns me up is, to simply scan the Sam's club card would cost NOTHING. WE would be paing for the gas, but Dubyaheads are so wrapped up in their personal responsibility fetish that any request for help is seen as welfare. What if we took off trying to find a gas station and ran out? I'm sure we wouldn't be able to count on them for help at that point. The thing is, there's people that will look at this and sa that it should teach a lesson, but really, what ever did happen to helping people out if the need it and it costs ou nothing? It's not like we were trying to steal or bum mone. Wh equate it, as the Dubyahead did?

They PAY to shop at fuckin' Sam's Club, and they feel that you're probably running this scam to enjoy their membership benefits without paying your dues to Bentonville.
A pox upon you, freeloading varlet! Forsooth!

2. I'm with you - no reason they couldn't have helped you out |

How miserly. I don't get these people. Supposedly, they believe in community based help and "faith-based" help and all that rather than government "handouts" yet when they have a chance to put their money where their mouth is (or their Sam's Club card), they don't. Pukes.
I'm one of those people who has bought people gas, given them a ride to the station with their gas can, etc. I LIKE to help people out - it makes me feel good.
I'm assuming you managed to get some gas before you ran out?

5. You can't blame people's unwillingness to help another |

at no cost to them, on the corporate control of the news. The entire culture needs changed. Right now we live in a social darwinist culture that says all is fine as long as me and mine are taken care of. Who cares if the neighbor or someone across town eats or has access to healthcare, as long as MY family is doing well is what we are told. It is this attitude which enables many Americans to accept going into Iraq to take control of the oil fields, after all what is OUR oil doing in THEIR country, so some think.
What our current American culture fails to realize is that if everyone has basic rights taken care of we all benefit. There are fewer sick kids so mom and dad don't miss as many days from work because of sick kids. If mom and dad only need to work one job they can devote more time to actually raising their kids and so on and so on and so on.
I agree the message from the media needs changed but that will happen only after the culture changes.
