I Am The Only One Who Doesn't Like The Eminem 'Mosh' Song, Apparently. |
|
Its message is alright I guess, but I can't take political preaching from an idiot like Eminem.
Plus, I don't like rap. Period.
But I guess the lyrics are O.K., and if it gets some people out to vote against bush who wouldn't otherwise, good I guess.

tonight's performance sans video wouldn't have inspired anyone but an Eminem fan.

Just watching him sway and stare at the floor prompter didn't move me like the video did. =/
The message is still there, and still good, though.

6. His music is much bigger than rap music itself |
|
this guy really has his finger on the pulse of the American urban youth. He's big and he'll keep getting bigger for quite awhile. It's great to see Eminem getting politically active. If he inspired young people to get involved, then it's a good thing.

but eminem's appeal goes well beyond urban areas, which is why suburban parents feel threatened. people may not like the messenger, but the message is of paramount importance in these troubled times.
and besides, i don't think we're his target audience, as i am a middle aged political junkie. he's reaching out to those who generally have no interest in politics or the process, and this outreach may provoke a fraction of them to get off their a** & vote in their own best interest. at least, i hope so.

8. I actually do like some rap |
|
and the video for "Mosh" is genius- really chilling.
But I think, in all honesty, that the song itself is monotonous and uninspired.
I'm glad as hell that he's doing what he's doing though.

and evocative. I thought it was well done. I personally like the way the song builds slowly into a crescendo - with Eminem raising his voice to a shout at the end.

the lyrics and the background music sucked big time...even for rap. But like you, if the intended audience gets it and is inspired to vote, I'm all for it.

I hate rap, so naturally I'm supposed to hate this song, unless it supports my socio-political worldview.Gosh Can you tell me what I should think about The Boss.

Luckily millions of others are.
Marshall is hardly an idiot, and this courageous pronouncement on his part is inspiring and patriotic to this 50 year old white man.
Your cultural preaching is quite irionic considering your denouncement of his political preaching.

Every time I hear it, it sounds fresh. Forget the words, the tone is scary, ominous. Em speaks to the streets and in doing so, speaks to the mall kids who worship street. As an effective political statement, it rates high. (Maybe not to thirty year old bloggers.)
Lyrically, he gets right to the point and evokes awesome imagery, even if you never get to see the video which is killer. The rhymes are clever both at face value and in their delivery.
I've been listening to rap from the days of Whodini, though I cooled off after the first De La Sol album. I do not own an Eminem album but I am impressed. He continues to grow. He does not get enough credit for his 8 mile acting performance. How many rock stars can carry a movie like that? Bowie never did. Not Jagger. Not Snoop. Not Puffy. Cher and Babs don't count. Prince did it but Purple Rain did not age well. Beyonce can act in an ensmeble role. Face it, Em is a monster talent.

or may not like the song (rap isn't my favorite genre either), but I don't understand who couldn't like the video (other than RWer).
It really rips Bush apart. The part where Osama is on the screen and it falls over, and right behind him - Bush and Cheney. Another great part is the woman coming home to find herself being evicted, while the TV shows Bush giving new tax cuts.
I personally like both the song and the video, but the video itself is effective.

29. This is not the 1960s so Bob Dylan is not going to connect |
|
with most kids and even with most people in their 30s and early 40s. Different times demand different songs. So, Eminem doesn't work for the original poster. Well, my nieces and nephews wouldn't be caught dead listening to the Dead or other people from the 60s and 70s, but they and their friends WILL listen to Eminem. Since it is they who may be called up in a draft, the song works.
To many people not of baby boomer age, the 60s don't resonate because it appears the baby boomers totally sold out and became what they claimed to hate.
I like Eminem and it took a few listenings for the song to grow on me. The work by GNN is awesome.

It's cool if you just don't dig Em or the song, but you've got to give real attention to his influence on young people and his willingness to put a song like that on his album.

|
Glad to realize that most of the codgers are younger than I. Rap is not my favorite kind of music--old hippie fart that I am. But I won't say that any genre of music is worthless; that's stupid.
The lyrics are intelligent & moving. The instrumental backing is effective & dramatic. The video is great.
