Memorize the lyrics and see if you can pull it off. It's a very long song, with NO breaks whatsoever. It ain't like there's a guitar solo where he can catch his breath or back up singers to sing every other line.

1. Most people employ a backup singer to do the quick voices
or help with them.

And really, something is much easier when you write it yourself :-)

3. C'mon, you did NOT
And who the fuck wrote it if not Eminem? Admittedly, I've been somewhat out of the loop, but I haven't heard that anyone but Em wrote Mosh.

5. I'm very happy . . .
Edited on Sat Oct-30-04 11:51 PM by TimeToGo
. . .that someone came on network TV and said what he said about Bush.

That said, if you read the lyrics, I don't see how they are that special -- about what you read here day in and day out off the top of people's heads. I mean more power to the guy that he can make money off of it.

6. Geez, never seen so much bitchin about lip syncing. It's about the words!
How many times do you see singers on Oprah performing to a full orchestra yet there is no orchestra there. Folks expect to hear what has been recorded in a strict environment of a recording studio. To give us what we have already heard on a recording in another setting is difficult to do without lip syncing. Do you really think Brittney is singing when she is running, jumping, showering on stage in her concerts????

11. Rappers rap over their own voice
They don't need to fuckin' lip synch.

16. Hey, I'm defending Em
And I don't suppose anyone's thought about the possiblity that they required Em to do it either.... you know, to avoid any nasty little surprises that might piss Uncle KKKarl off?

17. If I WROTE the friggin' song? Yeah, I think I could remember the lyrics.
I think Mosh is great and I'm glad that he performed it on SNL, but saying he lip-synched because HE wrote tight lyrics?????

20. He made it SO obvious that he was lip syncing
He dropped the microphone from his mouth and stopped moving his lips, but the music kept right on coming. He was trying to make a point that most performers lip sync during big performances like this.

22. Someone said it was shorter...
And instead of just hacking off the beginning or end, it was probably trimmed internally. *That* is hard to memorize...a different way of singing the song that you wrote.

And since it was prerecorded, it's not like a band could wing it with him.

23. Maybe he will live then
Edited on Sun Oct-31-04 01:37 AM by chookie
When I heard Mosh, and then started exploring his other stuff, I was thinking -- this kid isn't going to live long. His vision is too clear, he understands too much, he is too honest -- his life is torment.

If *I* had been Eminem tonight-- hell, I would have shot the works tonight -- I would have gone mantic and up on the high wire without a net and screamed the truth and gone for the message and the intensity and the moment -- I would have dared to go live.

But the mantic master held back. He's is saving himself for something. He's chosen to live a while longer.

He ain't the first. I am very new to hiphop.

This stuff is not new. Joan Sutherland *recorded* an immaculate, perfect Turandot. Everyone knew that she would never, COULD never duplicate this feat, let alone surpass it -- and when she appeared in this role, by golly, she lip-synched.... Other artists perhaps are more spontaneous, perhaps more daring and mad -- but perhaps if you KNOW you will never surpass a certain performance, and maybe never be as great -- well, hey.

I'm not going to ask Eminem for more than what he has given already.
