What's with all the lip syncing posts?
So what. I've been watching people lip sync on television for decades.... since the 1960's at least.

I think there is a significant difference between, for example, Milli Vanilli, who lip synced to songs that were actually performed and recorded by other artists, but claimed as there own, and your general lip syncing crowd.

Now, maybe I'm off, but personally, I think 85% of artists sound horrible when they sing their songs outside of a studio/concert atmosphere. I don't mind though. I congratulate them on sounding terrible, but keeping it true. On the other hand, if you have a backup recording, or just plain lip sync, to a song that you actually performed and recorded, what's the big deal? They're giving people what they want to hear, and not taking credit for some other performers work

Of course, I might just be an idiot, and will listen patiently while you explain why I'm wrong.

1. elvis costello didn't lip synch on SNL
he proved that by changing his mind after about 8 bars of-oh I can't remember-to 'Radio, Radio'. Some people are actually talented enough to pull it off. :)

2. Everything on American Bandstand was lip synced
I remember as a little boy wondering how those people made their voices fade out at the end of songs like that.

Ashlee Simpson made an ass of herself by not going with the moment, doing a stupid faux-Irish jog and leaving the satge.

4. I agree with that, she handled it badly, but that wasn't what
the majority of the posts mentioned, they were fixated on the lip syncing.

3. Because apparently there are more people
worried about production values, and unaware of live mike and sound quality problems, than there are people thrilled the song was on SNL 2 days before the election.

Or...people who live to look gift horses in the mouth.

9. Well the song will be
utterly worthless to him personally by Wednesday, but in the meantime he handed Kerry and the Dems a gift on a silver platter.

Yet people nit-pick about it!

6. I just find lip syncing disingenuous.
IMO it's cheap.

10. Yes, but there is lip syncing and there is lip syncing.
Mouthing songs is pretty bad, but if you're actually singing, and simply letting the recording override you, it's not as bad.

I do understand what you mean though.

7. I got p*ed off for being told I wasn't to think it was lip syncing
I hate being told what to think, so I've probably contributed to the problem.
Love the message he sent though.

8. It's supposed to be Saturday Night LIVE
I think that's what bothers people about lip syncing on this program. Some of their musical guests do actually sing, I think.

12. Yes, the posts here have mostly been about the
SNL incidents, but the general clamor over lip syncing within the posts (many of them by posters that had not seen the shows) reflected what is stated all over the place outside of DU.

Note that I'm not saying people are wrong for disliking lip syncing, just that it is making a mountain out of a molehill (except in the case of, for example, Milli Vanilli)

11. He's already reaching millions of his fans with the video and song
tonight he reached millions more, whether he lip synched or not.

I guess for some people that's still not good enough. I sure as hell don't understand it.
