mac osx/itunes help...
how do you play a cd of mp3's in itunes without importing each song into the itunes library?

when i insert a regular audio cd, the cd (with songs) displays in the left window and i can play the cd without itunes forcing me to import the songs to disk.

when i insert a mp3 cd, the cd doesn't display in the let window. Then when i open the cd icon on the desktop and click on a song, it imports the song to disk then it plays it...but only that song. To play the next song on the cd i then have to click on it and let it import that song to disk.

i just want to play the mp3 cd without having the songs on my hard drive.

1. Hmmm...seems to work here.

Do you have the latest version 4.7?

Is the CD burned from iTunes? If so, is it burned as an "MP3 Disk" or a "Data" disc? I usually use MP3 Disk because that's what works in my Kenwood car deck. That's what plays fine in my iTunes... haven't tried a Data disc.

You might go under "advanced" in preferences and uncheck the "Copy Files to iTunes Music folder when adding to library" to keep it from copying the CD onto your hard drive (which it sounds like you're trying to avoid).

Worst case, uncheck the "Copy Files" box then drag the CD contents into iTunes... they'll only play when the CD is in the computer... not really ideal.

You could also just copy the CD to your hard drive, listen, then delete.

Good luck!

2. Double-click the CD icon on the desktop.
Hit Command-3 to use Column View, then you can play each song using the controls in the rightmost column.

3. Sounds like gmoney has the answer.
I've wondered that myself. What a hassle.
