5. I moved from Cali to Oregon when I was 6
Initially I hated Oregon and the rain. Then, suddenly, it grew on me. Now it's vice versa. When I go back to California, I do nothing but long to go home to Oregon! And yes, I also love the rain.....

First you hate the rain, Then you get used to it, Then you love it! The key for me was learning that soccer is about 100x funner when played in heavy rain, mud, etc!

9. I have to kill an hour because
it's daylight savings time. Unless you're in Arizona, where (to my understanding) they don't have daylight savings time.

That link made me laugh out loud. :D

11. You staying up to...
change the clocks? Excuse me while I LOL. I'm in Oregon. Who'd of thought that Arizona would be the 'smartest' state? I hate daylight savings time. You waste a lot of energy trying to stay cool when the sun is shining until 10 at night. Sorry the rambling rant, I should be in bed.

Glad you liked link.:)

13. A good friend of mine just moved to Oregon
Salem, to be exact.

I'm thinking of moving there myself, depending on how things go with various graduate school applications.

It must be nice to live in a state where liberal isn't a dirty word. :(

I'm about 2 miles from the beach. No, liberal is not a dirty word here....yet!

What are you studying?

15. I'm studying English/lit
though I'll probably also apply to schools for an MFA in creative writing. The main thing that makes U of Oregon appealing is the location. In Oklahoma, liberal is definitely a dirty word. :(

Interestingly, my friend who moved there is not a liberal, but rather a fundamentalist and fairly conservative on most issues. But she's voting for Kerry, b/c she hates the war and sees through all that bush bs.

Must be nice living so close to the beach, and still having mountains within a days drive!

16. You plan on teaching? Please don't check my...
spelling or grammar, K? LOL

This is coincidental, I just started writing (again) a few months ago.

In Oregon, the beach and the mountains are in the same place. When I moved back up here from SoCal, I asked a hostess at restaurant 'when will I get out of the mountains?' She looked at me like I was an ET. Here, it seems, you're never really quite out of the mountains.

Hope you get into the school want.

17. Thanks
I promise not to bother with grammar or spelling :D

This summer we went on vacation to Northern California. We're mountain people, from god's country (grew up in the rockies and big horns of MT, WY, CO), but it was just so amazing looking out the driver's side and seeing ocean and then looking out the passenger's side and seeing mountains.

God I'm jealous :)

19. Sorry, but Oregon is 'God's country'...
at least that's what my Grampa always told me. But I bet MT, WY and CO could maybe be considered the suburbs of God's country. LOL

You should be jealous. :) LOL, I'm just kidding you. I hope you get to go to school here, don't think you'll want to leave.

If you liked the Northern Calif coast, you'd love this one.

21. I guess plenty of people refer to their own land as "god's country"
but, of course, i've never heard anyone calling oklahoma god's country ;)

(sigh) I miss the mountains. I've never been to Oregon, but you're probably right that I wouldn't want to leave :)

23. LOL I've never heard anyone refer to OK...
as 'God's country' either. So I guess it must not be.

I have faith that you'll make it to Oregon. And you will love it and you'll stay and try to talk everyone you know and love into coming here too.

I could bet that once my friends get here, they won't be leaving either.

I'm getting brain dead now, and fading fast. But I do have one question, what the hell does fishwax mean???

24. fishwax is short for "fishwaxleft-e" which was a reference to ...
liberal politics, liberal religion/christianity, and monty python (de middle of de film, in case you're familiar with their movie "the meaning of life."

Thanks for asking :) It's obscure, i suppose, but it's been "me" for a few years now. :silly:

Late/brain dead for me too ... 4 am even w/ the extra hour ... have a good night. :):hi:

28. Thanks for the explaination....
I sure never would have figured it out. I never saw any Monty Python stuff. Call me weird, but I never 'got' them.

It's a cool name. Pretty sure I'll never see it anywhere else.
