For me, some of the worst:

Little kid screaming in a store.
Circular saws.
Dentist drills.
Billy Mays.

Now, before I get flamed, I like Dolly Parton as a person, but her voice makes my ears ring.

All those maddening background noises that FOX puts into the audio of their TV broadcasts. It reminds me of a laugh track that's added to jazz-up the entire visual.

We've been Pavlovianly conditioned to cringe at the sound of that music. It almost always mean some catastrophe just happened. It screams "ominous".

The first time I noticed it was when Ayrton Senna died.
