Wet dog food gives her the runs.

11. Why is it bad?
My dog loves it and sometimes she won't eat so I put a little cheese on it and she goobles it up.

16. i dont know about dogs
too much binds a cat up so they can't poop (just like in people) but you'd have to give your animal quite a bit for that to happen. it won't kill 'em but you'd probably have to give them an enema if it went on too long. ugly thought <shudder>

Dogs and cats, both
Get dry. Dogs are all vegetarian (the rescues slowly transfer over) but the cats get all the meaty goodness that Nutro can offer their little carnivore butts.

5. dry food for my cat
He eats very little else - doesn't like table scraps at all. I occasionally give him a little bit of canned tuna as a treat.

6. My cat LOVES
wet food. He goes crazy every time I get a can out. But, he likes dry too. Actually, he's not picky--he's a little piggy and will eat anything.

20. my kitty is a lil' piglet herself
she is always lurking around, looking for food. Even if I just fed her, If I eat something that smells good (just about anything) she will hover around me as I eat.

9. THE ISSUE IS NOT WHETHER
THE FOOD IS WET OR DRY.
WE HAVE A CAT WHO GETS A HALF CAN OF WET AT MEALS BUT HAS A BOWL OF DRY FOR NIBBLING.
WE ALSO HAVE THREE DOGS. THEY GET A MIXTURE OF DRY DOG FOOD AND REGULAR CHICKEN SHREDS. BUT THE MAJOR PART OF THEIR FOOD IS DRY.

THE REASON:

TOO MUCH SUGAR IN CANNED FOOD. BAD FOR THEIR TEETH AND THEIR STOMACHS.

SINCE WE STARTED HAVING DOGS AND CATS, 37 YEARS AGO, OUR GUYS LIVE WELL BEYOND THEIR NORMAL AGE RANGE AND ARE HEALTHY AND ACTIVES DESPITE NEVER HAVING CANNED DOG FOOD.

10. Wet food attracts ants and other bugs. Dry doesn't seem to.
My cats like any food as long as it is expensive, or whatever we humans eat! They won't "people food" except out of OUR dishes, however. Put it on the floor in their bowl and they turn up their noses. They don't like milk but love ice cream, especially Dairy Queen.

They don't like generic brands from the Dollar Store, etc  and I most often end up throwing it away.

13. Typically, I roast a few 'neighborly' Republicans, then
feed em generously to my dog. Sometimes my cat gets some too, if she's good. Both my dog and my cat are very happy.

17. Neither. We feed our dogs raw meat and bone only.
Edited on Sun Oct-31-04 07:41 PM by tuvor
Having the same genetic makeup as wolves, it's the most sensible thing in the world.

We adopted a retriever from the SPCA, overweight by about 20 pounds. Now, about four weeks later, he's looking much better and has a lot more energy. And his coat is no longer greasy-feeling.

We've also been doing this with our pug for the past four years.

The many benefits (better coat, fewer health problems, lower vet bills) outweigh the slightly higher cost.

32. I once owned a wolf/malamute "hybrid" who would only eat 100% meat.
He refused to eat any dog food with cereal added. Got to be quite expensive to feed the mutt. But he was the greatest "dog" I ever owned. So gentle and such a people "dog" that it made me laugh to see BushCo try to demonize wolves in their commercial.

18. I use those Whiskas pouch things. Seemingly better quality than that
SHIT that's blended up and put in cans.

He also has a 24/7 supply of Iams dry food to supplement the 2 to 3 to 4 pouches a day ( I'm helping him beef up for the cold )

21. Dogs get mixed, cats get canned only
Due to the fact that we have 2 diabetics and dry food is just too high in carbs for them...they're on 'catkins'. Since we have 6 cats, total, it's too hard to try to feed the diabetics and the non with different diets. Add to that that the 2 needing insulin are 2 of 4 brothers and we definitely don't want -4- diabetics.

28. Both for our two cats
1/2 packet of Friskies in the pouch and all the dry food they want. They've been a little depressed since we fixed the dripping bathtub faucet. Now they must drink from a bowl instead of the faucet.

31. Our Cat Gets "Stinky Food"
Either salmon, tuna, whitefish, or mized grill. For an extra-stinky treat, she gets shrimp and sardine....

The dogs each get around a cup-and-a-half of Ol' Roy Kibbles, Chunks, and Chews (Wal-Mart's version of Kibbles & Bits), with some Ol' Roy Burgers & Cheez Bits mixed in.

from dry. He's pretty old, and I don't think his teeth are what they used to be. That I can relate to, myself, and so I'm feeding him canned food, now.
