38. I wouldn't worry too much
In 6th grade, they tested those of us who they thought would qualify for the gifted program, usually about the "top" half of the class. My brother tested just above 100 or so on the Stanford Binet. His junior year he got 1330 on his SATs. They put him in the gifted program, finally. He tested for MENSA 3 times over the next several years and scored between 104 and 111. I believe each time it was the Stanford Binet. (Anyone here remember what MENSA uses?)

I know several MENSAns with IQs above 140 who didn't score well on the SAT.

SAT scores are only SUGGESTIVE of IQ, not proof positive by any means. I would take it all with a grain of salt. To get a TRUE picture, we would have to sit the two of them down NOW and administer to them the SAME test, especially since * shows obvious mental deterioration just over the past 10 years. He may have had an IQ of 125 at 16, but it may be much lower now.

Besides, there are people with genius IQs who are brain dead slackers, and plenty with so- called "average" IQs who are high achievers. I learned long ago that IQ is just a number and it doesn't make you any better than anyone else.

Compare and contrast * and Kerry by ability to lead, caring for the people of the country, and common sense (all of which matter MUCH more than IQ) and it's NO CONTEST. :-)

47. Please tell me you're joking?
You know that's not true, right? Right?

Here's the true story behind the phrase:

One night in October 1986, Rather was walking down a Manhattan street when he was punched from behind and thrown to the ground. His assailant kicked and beat him while repeating, "Kenneth, what is the frequency?"

No one could explain the event, and the rumors flew fast and wide. Some speculated the assailant was a KGB agent, while others claimed the attack was the work of a jealous husband. Rather himself couldn't shed any light on the subject. His explanation at the time?

"I got mugged. Who understands these things? I didn't and I don't now. I didn't make a lot of it at the time and I don't now. I wish I knew who did it and why, but I have no idea."

Apparently the strange event moved R.E.M. singer Michael Stipe, who said of the incident:

"It remains the premier unsolved American surrealist act of the 20th century. It's a misunderstanding that was scarily random, media hyped and just plain bizarre."

The attack inspired the 1994 R.E.M. hit "What's the Frequency, Kenneth." Being a good sport, Dan Rather even accompanied the band when they performed the song on a Late Show with David Letterman appearance.

In 1997, based on a tip from a psychiatrist, Rather's attacker was identified as William Tager. According to the psychiatrist, Tager, who was currently serving time for killing an NBC stagehand, blamed news media for beaming signals into his head, and thought if he could just find out the correct frequency, he could block those signals that were constantly assailing him. Hence the enigmatic inquiry.

20. Debunked: Read this from Media Matters...
http://mediamatters.org/items/200410250007

Tierney quoted "IQ expert" funded by eugenicists
In an October 24 New York Times "Political Points" column titled "Secret Weapon for Bush?" John Tierney reported that right-wing columnist Steve Sailer concluded that President George W. Bush has a higher IQ than Senator John Kerry, purportedly based on their scores on military tests. But then, rather than seeking a different view on the suppositions of Sailer -- whom Tierney identifies as a conservative -- Tierney obtained validation of Sailer's findings from University of Delaware "I.Q. expert" Linda Gottfredson. Tierney didn't report that Gottfredson is herself a controversial figure whose research has been funded by the Pioneer Fund, an organization designated a "hate group" by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) for its support over the years of the work of white supremacists, eugenicists, and others dedicated to proving the existence of genetic differences between races.

Gottfredson pronounced Sailer's analysis "creditable," Tierney stated in his article, adding that she "said she was not surprised at the results or that so many people had assumed that Mr. Kerry was smarter. 'People will often be misled into thinking someone is brighter if he says something complicated they can't understand,' Professor Gottfredson said."

To obtain "expert" commentary on Sailer's findings, Tierney did not have to look far. Sailer, who describes himself as "a reporter, movie critic for The American Conservative magazine, a columnist for VDARE.com, and founder of the Human Biodiversity Institute," has written frequently in defense of both the Pioneer Fund and Gottfredson (see, for example, here). He has cited her work in both his columns for VDARE.com, an anti-immigration website, and in an January 14 article he wrote for United Press International titled "How Smart Is Bush?"

He's administered thousands of IQ tests over the years. He estimates Shrub to be in the mid 90s. Believe it or not, 100 is no longer the "average", 90 is.

By contrast, the average DUer IQ (from a test taken last year by many DUers) is 140.

43. AAAAAAAAAAAA
god i hate it when people use the phrase "IQ". it has been decades since it was an acceptable psychological guage. the only comparison that could be made is if they both took the exact same test, under the exact same conditions, and even then, all they could say was that one did better than the other on THAT PARTICULAR TEST. a persons intelligence can simply not be rated scientifically, at least not reliably (of course we are leaving out brain damage)
