Was I watching "Meet the Press" or "Make me Laugh"

Flipped on the TV and Tim Russert was asking Dick Cheney about all those no-bid contract's that Halliburton got for helping to rebuild Iraq. And Tim asked him point blank "Did you have anything to do with them getting those contracts". What I heard next had me laughing so loud I think I woke up my neighbors "Of course not" (paraphrasing here) and then Dick goes on to talk about how, during his 5 years as Halliburton CEO, he had absolutely nothing to do with their defense contracts.

My side is still hurting from laughing too hard; I think I have to change my undies because I laughed so hard a little bit of pee-pee came out. And I swear there is a crack in my television screen from where a 3D version of Cheney's nose extended out into the realms of my world.

Folks - was that "Meet the Press" I was watching or "Make Me Laugh, 2003"

1. I thought Russert did a VERY poor job of following up

on Cheney's lies and obfuscations. It's as if Russert was out late last night, didn't do his homework, and was just reading the questions given to him by his writers. It was terrible.

If that was Al Gore who was the Secretary of Defense for Jimmy Carter, spent 5 years as Halliburton CEO before becoming Vice President, the media would have raked him through the coals. Every contract Halliburton ever had would have been scrutinized and somehow considered "shady" by our "liberal" media standards!

Maybe the entire point of this warm and fuzzy interview was to get Cheney to talk and get on record. Now we have something to work from. All we have to do is investigate to see if he had anything to do with defense contracts with Haliburton. ANYTHING at all, and we've caught him in a lie with newsfeed.

because in fact he didn't NEED to. Everyone knows he used to be their CEO, everyone knows he still has very close ties to the company, everyone knows that there is not supposed to be competitive bidding, and everyone knows that Halliburton is to get the contracts. Cheney doesn't even need to open his mouth. It. Just. Happens.

...behind closed doors in 2001? And why is DC working soooo hard to keep the information a secret?

If they were talking about $$$ - it is a crime.
If they were talking about matters of "national security" (appears that Iraq popped up as a topic) - it is a crime.
If they were talking about bunnies and kitties - it is a crime to cover it up.

I understand what you're saying, but I also understand that with or without the Hal contracts, we should still be nailing this bastard. Russert didn't do the job. Quelle suprise.

It's a sad day when we have a couple hundred democrats (emphasis on the little "d") in congress, and we're depending on Tim Russert to speak up about it.

Yes, Russert did not do his job with Cheney. Very, very poor. An 8th grader could have done as good a job, for all the follow-up Russert did.

When Howard Dean was on "Press the Meat" Tim Russert spent a long time grilling him on exactly how many US troops were in Viet...er, Iraq. Yet now that he's got Cheney, who ought to know how many there are, Tim doesn't seem interested in THAT issue....

...but when Bush bombed in that interview during the 2000 campaign, remember:

Interviewer: "Can you name the President of Chechnya?"

Bush: "No. Can you?"

...it was an "ambush!" an "attack" etc. Nevermind the 3rd-grader rebuttal of "no, can you?"
