Is SNL truly still funny?
60 Minutes is hyping up the show, but if you ask me: It hasn't been remotely funny since 1992. After a certain episode featuring Roseanne (which was good), the series went to pot.

1. Occasionally
It's far from the disaster that most hipsters would have you believe.

2. It was lame last night.

Except for the Eminem performance. The rest of the show just seemed annoying and had a "been there, done that" kinda thing.

11. Aside from the Gay Frankenstein bit
Last night was a HUGE miss.

They had a weak host, IMO.

4. I only ever watch until after Weekend Update...
then it's lights out and sleepy-sleepy. Amy Poehler seems to be a good replacement for Jimmy Fallon. I do like Tina Fey, her bit about O'Reilly last nite was pretty funny.

Poehler, Forte, Armisen and Dratch they'd really have something.

Unfortunately, we get WAY too much Horatio Sanz and Darrell Hammond.

Will Forte is a mega-star in the making.

6. They were funny last night
Did anybody else catch SNL last night? The Saturday TV Funhouse cartoon was SO funny.

I'm looking for the clip, but haven't found it, yet.

Basically, it was McCain practicing to give a glowing introductory description of Bush, followed by the real thing. He'd start saying something good about him and couldn't bring himself to finish it. The practice session was funny enough; he'd stop and bash his head on something when it got too painful and he showed up for the speech with a big red spot on his forehead. But the speech was just TOO MUCH. He'd get so far, hold up his finger like "just a minute", then walk into his trailer. The first time, you heard screams as Dick and George looked at each other on stage. The second time he was smashing things with a bat. Later, when he went into the trailer you heard the Doors "The End" and he was in his underwear, finally smashing a mirror with his fist. In his many breaks George would walk up to the mic and say stupid Bush shit like "tax cuts" or "values"...finally Dick whispered in his ear and he said "911", which drew the only applause. McCain came back out in his underwear, covered in blood, and finished the speech.

If any of you find that cartoon somewhere please share it. I don't usually laugh at the television, but this was LOL funny.

7. The Middle and Late Nineties were quite good.
I always thought the show got a bad wrap. I think these last few years it's been hard to replace the giant Will Ferrell-shaped hole in the cast. There are some genuine talents on the show, but the writing is inconsistent. Last night, however, was just abominable.

9. Their Golden Era was the '70s
Belushi, Ackroyd, Curtain, Neumann, Morris, Bill Murray. Since then there have been good episodes, but they have never been as consistently good.

13. Not so good these days, but 60 Mins. profile gives me chills
It's a great look behind the scenes, but for me its mostly because of the history it evokes. I keep scanning the rooms and halls for the ghosts of SNL past.

21. It's had a couple of shining moments, but overall
it's not what it once was. Eddie Murphy's "Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood" was classic, as was his "Buck Wheat Sings". I also remember during Eddie Murphy's time they did a bit on the news when Rev. Jesse Jackson read "Green Eggs and Ham" in honor of the passing of Dr. Seuss. That was absolutely hysterical.

Chris Farley was pretty funny, and Darrell Hammonds political imitations are good (esp. during Clinton impeachment and 2000 election w/ Will Farrell), but those all pale in comparison to the original Not Ready For Prime Time Players.
