Because there are many thoughtful posts on DU, but there aren't many freeper threads that last more than a few minutes. DUers come out of the woodwork to slam a freep wheneve one sticks its head up.
Threads die because there are new ones coming along all the time. It's an active community of smart people which is great, but it can be tough to compete in.
