I propose an entirely new electoral system: voting by bumper sticker. |
|
Feel free to add rules. Only one guideline: be as arbitrary as possible.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
One car, one vote. Of course, this means some people would get more than one vote. Big deal.
Your car must have current tags.
RVs count. Motorcycles count. Off-road vehicles, no matter how many wheels, even if street-legal, do not count. Trailers don't count. Boats don't count.
If you don't have a car, you're S.O.L.
If you refuse to put a bumper sticker on your car, you're S.O.L.
Behemoths (SUVs) & luxury V8s with Democratic-candidate stickers and economy cars & rattletrap pieces-of-shit with Republican-candidate stickers: no vote!
Whether you have one or a hundred bumper stickers on your car, you still get only one vote.
On election day, polling places are traffic checkpoints. It doesn't matter if your driver's license is valid. The only way to vote is by driving through a checkpoint. You can drive through any checkpoint in any state.
Using a computer (palm or blackberry-type) poll workers record license plates and the candidate represented by the bumper sticker(s) on the car. All these computers are linked nationally so that only one vote per license plate is counted.
You must have a bumper sticker for each office for which you wish to vote (i.e., presidential candidate, gubernatorial candidate, senatorial candidate, etc.). If you have only the Democratic presidential candidate's bumper sticker, the poll workers will not vote the Democratic ticket for you.
Special police forces, extensions of each county's electoral board, will patrol for 200 yards in each direction around each checkpoint/polling place. If your car is in an accident (no matter who is at fault) or if you break any traffic law within this perimeter, whether before or after your vote is counted, your vote will be disallowed.
AFAIC, this all makes more sense than the electoral college.
6. Good to see ya, Bertha!! |
:hi:
My editor, in one of his sillier moments, talked in his editorial about choosing a president by yard sign... by his count, Kerry would come in first, followed by Monkeyboy. Third place went to some third-party candidate called RE/MAX. :D
