My dad told my grandpa this last night when they were talking politics. But then, this is coming from my dad, who doesn't even like to leave Minnesota.

Massive "terrorist" attack within three weeks of the election. Maybe a major communications company is knocked out (or a power grid...hmmm...). The election is "suspended" because of either 'the public safety' or an inability to properly administer the polling process due to the disruption to the system.

Currently there's a little dust-up about Europeans who want to travel TO the U.S. (TOURIST DOLLARS, ANYONE?) being required to submit ID and CREDIT CHECKS to the U.S. gub'mint. It's NOT going over big. Instead of Florida, Cuba has become the destination. Most of this shit seems to be passing under the radar screen of the American populace.

What do you think these "no-fly" and "color-coded" lists are about? If you REALLY want OUT, don't wait too long. Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. I'm not sure why that adage always applies to the funky stuff. :shrug:

They have no real control over it now. As long as you can move within the US freely you CAN get out of here if you want to. The big trick is getting back in later...

Another thing to contemplate is that they can't afford to keep those boders TOO tightly closed. There is a large amount of trade going back and forth. IF they shut the borders down that trade stops and industry suffers.

I don't see the chimp ever doing anything to hurt corporations.

My friend and his partner emigrated to NZ. There was a lot of paperwork, a lot of requirements--mainly so they'd know you'd be a productive member of society rather than a drain on it. You have to be below a certain age, but I forget what age, unless you're independently wealthy. He had to provice medical records, employment and education history, financial records (I think), etc.

With the money they had from selling their house here, they bought a place, converted it, and opened a bed and breakfast that is doing pretty well. They now have dual citizenship (US and Kiwi). They absolutely love it there. People are easy-going, and unlike in the US, nobody gives a rat's ass that they're gay.

FYI, NZ has a Parliament member who is trans-gendered. Bet you wouldn't see that in this country!
