AHHH! We're moving to New Zealand if * wins the election! |
|
Edited on Sun Sep-14-03 02:36 PM by breezygirl
Or Canada, I would probably prefer Canada because it's just a few hours drive where New Zealand is just a few HEMISPHERES away.
My dad told my grandpa this last night when they were talking politics. But then, this is coming from my dad, who doesn't even like to leave Minnesota.
Any way, Dumbya won't win, so I shouldn't have much to worry about anyway. :)
edit: Just can't spell anything roght today...

1. Don't you think that we'll need to leave before the 2004 coup? |
|
Because afterwards there will be a swarms of people clawing to get out.
(I'm hoping to go to Canada, thus the "we.")

3. It really makes you think how smart Americans are |
|
I mean, can they honestly think that this stupid, STUPID man has anyone intrest's but his own at heart? How else could 70% of the American public think that Hussein had something to do with 9/11? Honsetly, Johnny Depp was probably right.

Call this :tinfoilhat: if you want to, but we (and several other Canadians we know) really believe that if Chimpy gets in in '04, Canada will be absorbed as part of PNAC's commitment to make Manifest Destiny a reality, (all for our own protection, of course  ).
Canada's too f***ing close to DC for my likings at the moment. NZ is where we're going, absolutely.

but, like you said, he prolly won't win...so I really don't have too much to worry about.

...comfort you.
I mean, he didn't win last time, either, but there he is.
Or, how about this :tinfoilhat: scenario:
Massive "terrorist" attack within three weeks of the election. Maybe a major communications company is knocked out (or a power grid...hmmm...). The election is "suspended" because of either 'the public safety' or an inability to properly administer the polling process due to the disruption to the system.
Like I said, :tinfoilhat: . Or is it...?
edit=I love using :tinfoilhat:

5. Maybe someday Canada will get pre-emptively struck. |
|
All these really smart intellectuals will flee to there, and then in about 20-30 years the US will be so far down the tubes that they'll say Canada has WMDs and will go "liberate" Canada to regain what was lost in the brain drain.

What allows anyone considering relocation to think that you will simply be "permitted" to leave?

Currently there's a little dust-up about Europeans who want to travel TO the U.S. (TOURIST DOLLARS, ANYONE?) being required to submit ID and CREDIT CHECKS to the U.S. gub'mint. It's NOT going over big. Instead of Florida, Cuba has become the destination. Most of this shit seems to be passing under the radar screen of the American populace.
What do you think these "no-fly" and "color-coded" lists are about? If you REALLY want OUT, don't wait too long. Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it. I'm not sure why that adage always applies to the funky stuff.

Anyone who might be a dissident would probably be given a free one-way ticket to anywhere they wanted. PNAC gets to tilt the vote balance of their subjects (er, sorry, 'citizens') in their favour, and sends intellectual enemies away, to a country which will eventually be occupied by the US anyway...

20. They can't close the Candian and Mexican border forever. |
|
They have no real control over it now. As long as you can move within the US freely you CAN get out of here if you want to. The big trick is getting back in later...
Another thing to contemplate is that they can't afford to keep those boders TOO tightly closed. There is a large amount of trade going back and forth. IF they shut the borders down that trade stops and industry suffers.
I don't see the chimp ever doing anything to hurt corporations.

The only way New Zealand will allow you to imigrate is if you marry a Kiwi. They're absolutely firm on this one.

18. I thought NZ was points-based? |
|
Like points for being under a certain age, points for education level, points for employability, points for the amount of capital you're bringing in, etc...
And, of course, refugee status...

21. Not true, unless it's changed in the last 5 or so years |
|
My friend and his partner emigrated to NZ. There was a lot of paperwork, a lot of requirements--mainly so they'd know you'd be a productive member of society rather than a drain on it. You have to be below a certain age, but I forget what age, unless you're independently wealthy. He had to provice medical records, employment and education history, financial records (I think), etc.
With the money they had from selling their house here, they bought a place, converted it, and opened a bed and breakfast that is doing pretty well. They now have dual citizenship (US and Kiwi). They absolutely love it there. People are easy-going, and unlike in the US, nobody gives a rat's ass that they're gay.
FYI, NZ has a Parliament member who is trans-gendered. Bet you wouldn't see that in this country!
