I'm Taoist and Christian! Ask me anything... |
|
I'm also heavily influenced by Buddhism. Seriously!
But I'm going off to eat dinner now, so I won't be answering any questions. Or if I do, it will be much later.
But in many ways, by not-answering, I offer a better answer; much as Jesus offers a better way; and Taoism offers a better non-way.

1. I'm a Taoist who is influenced by Zen |
|
Of course, Zen is basically Buddhism + Taoism anyway. And yeah, Jesus did have some cool things to say as well. Too bad his name got hijacked by the whack-jobs.

3. I'm not so hip on Confucianism |
|
Based more on order and rules than compassion and adaptability.

Take all the compassion and hope of Christianity, mix with the compassion of Buddhism, add in the ability to accept what is of Buddhism and Taoism and the non-judgmentalism of Taoism, and, well, bingo - the uber-religion.
Thich Nhat Han has had much influence on me, and Lao-Tzu a big impact on my understanding of how to be a human in the world.

my knowlege of Buddhism and Taoism is somewhat limited, I used to know more but forgot it.
Taoism (if I remember correctly) has really helped me with my personal beliefs on the nature of God. I also feel the "middle Way" of Buddhism is extremely close to the path Jesus taught.
It is theorized (but what isn't) that Jesus traveled to the east and learned some Buddhist teachings.
Non-judgmentalism of Taoism is cool, as it synchs right up with the non-judgemental teachings of Christianity.
For me it boils down to a focus on the teachings of Jesus, and I find excellent comparison to my knowledge of Buddhism and Taosim, limited as it may be.

5. Does it annoy you that people mispronounce "Tao"? |
|
Or are you too serene?

Yes it is does annoy me, but I keep the annoyance in check and inside. I politely correct them, serenely.
Then I burn their house down, because they might very well vote for the War Criminal if they're that stupid.
