Ghost Pictures and Observations
Edited on Tue Nov-02-04 02:51 AM by Champ

The Dog and the Orb
There have been many theories over the years concerning animals and their sensitivity to spectral presences. Here, Jennifer Anderson has sent a picture of an "orb," or a ghostly light, in the stairwell of her house. Orbs are the topic of much debate in the paranormal community, as they seem to appear only in photos and films, never visible to the naked eye. Of late, I have seen a few reports of people seeing orbs without benefit of photographic device, but nothing terribly credible.

What's remarkable here is the dog. He appears to be looking directly at the orb. His body posture indicates that he's not feeling threatened by it, but is rather curious.

It's been well-proven that dogs see the world differently than we do. Could their senses allow them to detect presences that we don't see with the naked eye?

Or could this ghost perhaps have had poor personal hygiene in life, thus resulting in an after-death body funk detectable by the highly precise canine sniffer?

22. John...
you KNOW you're my favorite pulltoy ever...

But how do you know you saw a spirit of a deceased person? Aren't there simpler explanations? And even if you believe you saw something, do you realize how fragile human perception is?

6. "ghosts" just show how powerful suggestion is
If you show someone a picture of a camera's flash on a window and tell them to look at it, you'll get shoulder shrugs. But tell them it's proof of paranormal activity and suddenly it becomes an "angel." Play any song backwards and you hear gibberish that sorta sounds like words. But write "lyrics" to a backwords song for someone to read while listening and you've just created subliminal messaging. The more they note similarities between your interpretation of the gibberish and the audio, the more convinced they become. Listen to enough songs or look at enough photographs and you'll be able to make any case for whatever you like.

13. There is a great volume of serious evidence
This evidence should be considered by true scientists and not those who choose the default of "no ghosts exist". There is a great deal of evidentiary material that something is doing these "things", though the first two photos are probably a dust mote (1) and reflection off the window (2).

Back in Ye Olden Dayes when something happened that people couldn't explain (eclipse, red tide, aurora borealis, why their computer wouldn't POST) the phenomenon would be neatly filed under the "magic" header. I'm no expert, but "ghosts" are caused by (1)a continuing ignorance of certain aspects of our natural world and (2)people who live by Fox Mulder's "I want to believe" poster and to a much lessor extent (3)intentional fraud: remember, the guy who wrote this article asked for these submissions. It's an attention whore's wet dream.

edited for laughable spelling

7. It looks to me like...
In order of pics:

1. Lens flare.
2. Nicely front-lit oily smudge (complete with hand smears).
3. Someone in a cape walking out the door.
4. Smoke or steam.

Interesting. CNN fails to mention that the palace has tours guided by people dressed in costumes.

17. The last picture looks like
water damage, or maybe that someone took an eraser to a photo. Second picture definately flash reflection. First picture looks like lens flare or dust to me.

The third picture is just fucked up. And not in any supernatural way, just distorted by distance and angle into something vaguely human-in-cape shaped. :eyes:

I proclaim these pictures to be bullshit.
