Let's see... it's been awhile since I've done a reading.

Devil - the material over the spiritual.
Emperor - one with authority as an obstacle
Hangman Reversed & Fool Reversed - does your wife think these cancel each other out - I've always equated Fool (rev) as having same meaning as Hanged Man. The same works for Hanged Man (rev) - he becomes the Fool.
Kn Wands - 'hero' to the rescue
6 Pentacles Reversed - stinginess (?) - refusal to give over
Judgement Reversed - fear that "justice won't be done"
3 Swords Reversed - 'injury' but to a lesser degree than it could be
Chariot - one willing to fight/conquer
Tower - Major Change Comes.

I agree with her take on the reading. It's going to be a tough fight but it looks like in the end there should be a major change to the current situation.

that is not a good spread. very heavy, mostly major arcana, isn't it interesting that the current situation centers on the devil (shrub) the emporer (worldy power) Judgement (getting what you deserve) yes, kerry has the chariot, (unstoppable perseverance) but i don't like the way it ends with the tower.

simply put, the tower means destruction. destruction of what is the question. could be destruction of the old world order, but also, destruction could mean destruction of kerry. this is a very heavy reading because most of the cards are major arcana. they are poorly dignified insofar as they all refer to battle, power and strife. they end with the tower, which is total demolition of the way things are.

that the last card was the Tower. Someone else posted a thread (n/l- archives are mostly down) about the election a while ago in the Meeting Room that also had the Tower as the outcome.

The Tower is the most Uranian card in the deck signifying both braskthroughs and breakdowns. Ahhhhh. . . it also rules all things related to high technologies. That would include: the media, the internet(s), and the electronic voting machines.

Happily, in the context of this spread, I can definately see how the reader interpreted it as looking as though our faux (Devil/Emporor) leader would be overthrown, Please oh please let's hope upon hope that it'll be true.

I was also surprised at the number of higher Arcana, as when there are more than 5 in a spread it suggests there is no way to alter the outcome.

Mine is the 78 card Rider deck, designed by Smith & Waite. Very elaborate, ornate and fun to use. I started doing Tarot as part of a Halloween costume, when I went as a fortune teller to a party. Ten years later my friends, family and co-workers won't let me stop ;)
