14. I shouldnt have studied at all
here i was learing my local politics, memorizing the constitution (or at least what article was what etc) and learning the US version of history - and they make me fly to GA for 5 questions!

how many stripes on the flag
what do they mean
who wrote the star spangled banner
what was the 49th state
and what is the first part of the constitution called

I could have answered those without ever visiting america

the english test was particularly funny

please read this sentence aloud - 'he has a very large dog'

congratulations you speak english

after all my studying I wished it was harder

20. Yeah
They have a list of 100 questions they use. That's it!
The list is published by the INS.

I had to read something like: "Today is a sunny day"

:)

12. technically no - and yes
IN america I will be only a US citizen - they would not recognize my former british citizenship as the US citizenship overrides any former consideration. In Britain they have a different kind of arrogance and view gaining another citizenship in the same way as joining a gardening club - yes yes you've joined the america thing but your still british old chap. so in the UK I would have both.

10. unfortunately cant vote yet - not a citizen
I lived in GA when I applied and moved to Illinois - they made me fly to GA last week to take the test but couldn't swear me in since I dont live in GA. Also further complicated since i am moving to San Diego tomorrow. So it could be a while before they figure out where I get sworn in.

13. 7 years?
I applied for a green card 7 years ago (that took 2 and a half years) and then had a quick turnaround of only a year from applying to get citizenship. (the letter I got said please wait 750-999 business days - so one year was a shock)

but who knows how long now before i get sworn in

16. Do you still have to study the Constitution?
Or is that obsolete in Bush's America?
