I think there's going to be some bad news tonight, unfortunately. |
|
I think most of the proposed state constitutional gay marriage bans on the ballot will pass.
God, I would love to be proved wrong. I would dearly love to be proved wrong.

2. You can thank President Fuckface for these pos's. |
|
He's the one that's whipped up this "gay marriage is a threat" bullshit. I think a lot of people, sadly, have bought into it.

6. Rest easy in the fact that when history is written |

Those who have so fervently opposed gay marriage and seek to legislate bigotry will be viewed upon the same level with those who opposed civil rights to minorities and denied women the right to vote.

7. I don't think so really |
|
I know the ban that was passed in Maine a few years back passed b/c it was not on a regular ballot- people had to go vote just for it and the right organized like hell to get people out.
So, I think our HUGE voter turnout today will also work against these marriage bans. Here's hoping. But, getting Bush out is also huge for this as well.

8. I voted against ours Terry |
|
My wife and I both did. See, discrimination is already written into our Oklahoma constitution because gay marriage is already forbidden. However, this amendment was to "clarify the definition of marriage between one man and one woman." It goes on to radically limit the rights of common law couples, regardless of sex. I'm afraid it has like 78% support in this backwards ass state. Sorry. I did my part, though! :(

10. A VERY BAD PRECEDENT INDEED |
|
Using the constitution as a weapon in the hands of religious zealots. THE CONSTITUTION IS A SHIELD, NOT A WEAPON. Turn about may be fair play.
A chuckle from Mississippi. The baptist ministers in the state were having fits last weekend because their flocks did not know which way to vote on the amendment. They figured since all the enlightened dumbasses in the state hated Homosexuals they would end up voting NO on the amendment. A no vote would be against Homosexuals in the bigoted minds of my fellow Mississippians. That would be a story.

Once Kerry is elected and Supreme Court Justices start retiring or dying, we'll get some good justices in there who will declare all those marriage bans unconstitutional.

but given its fundie-repuke tendencies in recent years, I expect it to pass. I wish I could arrange a land-swap with some disgruntled neocon apologist in Oregon!

Stand just outside the legal boundaries for campaigning near polling places with GIGANTIC signs reading:
Voting "yes" on the marriage amendment is GAY!
They will cast no vote on the measure, as they will be torn between two homophobias.

14. I'm all for this. I hope these states pass their laws. |
|
And I hope gays and lesbians boycott them.
These states are telling 10% of their populations that they're not equal, that they should move away.
It will end up biting them in the ass economically, which, to republicans, is second only to little baby Jesus (maybe), because what moves with them are the property taxes, the state income taxes, the state sales taxes, the human capital, the disposable income that support stores and corporations within these states, and, just as importantly, they'll lose congressional representation after the next census.
Plus they have the added benefit of the leaders of this anti-gay movement being shown in history classrooms twenty years from now as complete fucking idiotic homophobic pricks. Eight-year-olds will laugh at them. Way to cement your place in history, whack-jobs.

15. I know, I think it'll pass in Michigan, despite it being a very deceptive |
|
The Michigan bill proposes to do away with any type of benefit for unmarried couples, even makes it illegal for employers to offer benefits to unmarried couples (although, I don't think that hetero unmarrieds should get those benefits, they should get married. Gay people don't have that option, and won't, it looks like, for a while).
