For a number of reasons, including the election, I have been unable to get more than a couple hours of sleep each night for the last couple of weeks. I am irritable, unable to think straight and I have an exam coming up tomorrow (for which I think I am prepared- but I have to do well since I did poorly on the last one). Every night I wonder if I am going to get some sleep and each night the answer is a resounding no. My mind races, my heart races too, I wake up covered in sweat when I do sleep. I feel like I am losing my mind. I got a little pissed off last Sunday when one of my colleagues called me to go work. I was looking forward to having a whole weekend off but I guess that wasn't in the cards that day. I think this weekend I am turning the ringer off and not answering the phone. I figure that on my days off I can do that if I want to; I don't have to be available 24/7. I am working fulltime and going to school part-time and have a huge tuition bill next semester (which I worry how to pay). I can't afford to fly home for Christmas so I am most likely going to be alone for the holidays. And last, but certainly not least, I am really, really upset over the election. It truly feels like Sauron has won and murdered all the little Hobbits.

Sometimes we need a little help. I think we all need to take a little time to regroup our lives and take care of some of the things we've been neglecting.

Take two and give it 20 minutes. Might get a few hours of peace.

6. This is what I usually do |

It hasn't helped lately and I try not to do it too much. I think it is just a bad patch- too much happening all at once.

4. Antihistamines usually do the trick |

Get something with diphenhydramine (sp?) (it's what's in over the counter sleep aids like sominex etc.)
Benadryl or the generic equivalent should help you out.
Sorry to hear you'll be stuck there for the holidays. Hope you can be with people who care about you, at least.

and hopefully you can go home with one of your classmates who lives nearby. When little Scrooge had to stay in school during the holidays he grew up to be a mean old man (just trying to put some glow on the blow).
Take care of yourself and take some sleeping pills so you don't wake up worrying (I should take my own advice, heh?)
