Okay, her's an election to lighten the mood a little
I have about $2000, vacation should be coming up the week after next (the one before Thanksgiving), and I want to buy a new Mac. :-) No Widows anything, I've had dozens of people tell me how bad XP is :argh:

So, heere are my 2 and only 2 choices:

a) iMac G5 with combo drive--I can get a dvd burner when I NEED one. I can also upgrade the memory myself. Pls, it has that great style, bug 17 inch monitor (widescreen too) I can't exactly use it anywhere like an iBook, but it does have much more firepower out o the box...

b) iBook G4 with combo drive, Airport Extreme built in. Take it and sue it anywhere, anytime. For some odd reason, it's not listed on the CompUSA website anymore--I'd go pick one up next week...

each costs the same, $1299 plus the 5% Virginia sales tax. 'll add the iSight and extra RAM in December. Sooooohelp me decide once and for all :)

I know alot of you are bumming, angry, sad...we did our best and barely, barely missed. Don't hang your heads, don't low up, don't cry or do anything you might regret later. * will be the very last of his type, after him it's...Arrrrrnuld? :eyes: Not going to happen. But enough of that, help me pick my next Mac and laugh at my silliness

1. Ooooh, tough choice
I think I'd go with the iBook, though. Of course, I need to travel all over the District. If you do most of your computing home-bound, the iMac G5 is suh-weet, and I'd go with that. But I'd recommend the iBook -- everyone I know who has one swears by it. Portable, durable, and a lot of fun.

4. imagine ow I felt
I had decided this weekend to go for the iBook, and on CompUSA's website..nothing about it :wow: and the iMac G5s were out of stock--which is no real surprise..

I wouldn't NEED an iBook until I finish my last college course (algebra) and look for an english teaching job in Japan next spring/summer. OR..knowing thata draft will have people who speak foreign languages signed up(I'm fluent in Japanese, and I did pas the NSA's Japanese language test--but why did they test ME when Arabic is much more needed? hmmm) The exam was rather easy, but my application was stopped "due tot he people you assciate with (DU I presume!)..perhaps it was a scouting trip...

I'll call my CompUSA store and ask aboutt h iBooks, and to see if they have an iMac G5 I can play with in the store. Leaning towards the iMac, as I will be able to do alot of upgrades by myself :)

My Congressman Bobby Scott won by 70 % over some creature who vowed to suck up to * so that and Kerry winning by 65% in my city made yesterday and oday better to bear.

2. And, a little ray of sunshine
The Oregon Senate changed from Republican to Democratic control for the first time in a long time. The House will stay in Republican hands, but it's just possible that the Oregon Legislature will actually get one or two things done this session.

3. How can you make any plans
Don't we have to go get shot by the police for rioting in streets of Washington on inauguration day?

8. I only go to CompUSA
to try the machines out in person, not actually BUY one there

I'd rather send my hard earned money straight to Steve Jobs anyway!

Hmmm, today Doom 3 was annunced for Mac OS X :bounce: I could make a mod witht he iMac G5 and make the BFEE replace the mosters....

7. do not buy the ibook
the g5 is about 200x faster and more powerful

if you want the portability, get the 15 inch powerbook, I have the 17 and it is godlike in its abilities, the 12 inch is good too, but a little too small for really doing anything work related. imho

good luck, mac is great.

11. time to tally up
thanks to the DUers who have responded to my thread here :) I do think now that geting an imac G5 will be best for me :bounce: I realy don't need a portble Mac such as the iBoo--like I'm going to take it to my job (as a baker at that) LOL Plus, Syve Jobs is a good Democrat, Apple is very much ike DU anyway, so it's a win win situation.

I'll take my time this weeeknd, be able to use one hopefully and get my final config ready for the order.
