West Wing - Is John Spencer leaving the show?
I have a feeling there's going to be a change of plans. If they were planning on replacing a Dem admin led by Martin Sheen with a repuke admin led by Alan Alda, I bet they change their minds. The appeal of the show is that it's the opposite of real life while paralleling real life at the same time.

As much as I'd love to see Alan Alda in a new series, I couldn't stand to watch him be a repuke prez.

So, anyway is John Spencer (Leo) leaving the show?

2. And seriously, if they WANTED to kill the show...
they'd have Alan Alda's character win. Who would really want to watch a ficitonal show about a Republican administration? In this age?

4. I would, if they would mirror reality...
Sometimes I think it takes a fictional show to expose the American people what's going on in reality. Spouting facts sure doesn't seem to make a dent. Fiction is safer somehow, and more palatable to a lot of people.

Bring a Republican administration to "The West Wing," mix in a few articulate Democrats to expose the assholes at every turn, and who knows? Maybe we'll win a few more Dems down the line.

3. I actually wouldn't mind a Republican administration in the West Wing...
...if it weren't happening in real life.

I mean, I can see that the show wants to be realistic and dramatic, and yeah, there should be turnover. It would probably invigorate the series from a writing standpoint, new characters, new situations, new drama, new dynamics.

But... they can't. They just can't. If Kerry had won I think I would've accepted it. But he didn't. We liberal Democrats need our alternate fantasy universe once a week.
