2. We're "intellectual elitists".
Don't trust the smart people though.

Sure path to ruin, that.

/sarcasm.

5. That seems fake.
If you were doing a random IQ sampling from each state, and assuming IQ tests are valid, wouldn't the mean score always be 100?

BTW. Check the site. I just did. It is indeed fake.

6. It's bogus
Check the link.

Last week we published a list that purported to show the IQ s of states voting for George Bush and Al Gore in 2000. Alas, we were the victim of a hoax: no such data exists. By way of apology, here are two very crude ratings of states' intelligence—and how they voted.

7. Funny, but it doesn't hold water
The link you gave:

http://www.seas.upenn.edu/~kenyon3/2004.htm

doesn't support your claim. Montana came in fourth in mathematics scores (based on standardized testing). Nice try for a joke, but sit on you thumb and spin on behalf of Montana.

13. Yes, my state has the highest IQ!!!
Edited on Thu Nov-04-04 08:15 AM by SarahBelle
I feel vindicated at least a little bit. Nutmeggers rock! :headbang:

My IQ allegedly surpasses 113 though.

edit: Now I see it's a fraud, but I'd like to see something to refute it nonetheless. I'd doubt an actual study would be much different. The only hope at all for the red states are DUers who throw the curve. :D

15. Even more interesting
Take a look at the list of states ranked by per capita income (5 year old data, unfortunately)

http://www.cps.k12.va.us/departments/budget/0102/PERCAPTA_0102.pdf

The richest states tend to be Dem. The poorest are almost exclusively Rep.

17. Tax Revenues vs Federal Aid is even more enlightening
Red States receive well over 100% of the money their residents pay in federal income tax; in Blue States, it's exactly the reverse.

So much for the Big, Bad Federal Government line AND the Conservatives' Superior Work Ethic line.
