Can the American Indians take back their land?
If it's leased like they were tricked into believing then would the Indians be able to take it back since they are the real landlords?

6. No Chief Justic Marshall in the 1800s
made the racist ruling that what was then the United States had been given to the "discovers" by the European Royalty.

In convaluted thinking that would impress today's GOP -- he ruled that they didn't own the land but that the US Government owned the land.

So today the holds the Indian Lands (Reservation) in Trust for the Indians. In some cases Reservations were sub-divided and handed out to enrolled members of an Indian Nation. Most or all of these tracts of land were sold to whites.

Each Indian Nation has negiotiated a different treaty (and all treaties have been violated by the "Great White Father")

There are several excellent books on this subject -- DeVine is one of the author's whose books are well researched.

7. Do you remember when the 100 year old lease ran out on NY?
I don't remember hearing anything else about after it was mentioned on the news a few years back.

8. Native Americans can do what the Christians did for Rome
Since European-American ways are losing their grip on progressive Americans, Indian ways can greatly influence future generations of non-Indian Americans. It's already started with the New Age movement. Then, being an "American Indian" won't be a matter of blood.

11. Yeah I'm sure...
giving them more worthless land in the middle of nowhere will make up for all past transgressions.

15. You do realize that's exactly what our country
did to them in the first place? Give them the most worthless land we could find?

10. Maybe...
I think it mostly depends on how you define "American Indians," and how you define "take back thier land."

I'm Mexican-American, and while I dont consider myself "Indian," there are a few Mexican-Americans who do, most all of us however do have Indian blood in us.

So if you want to look at it one way you could say that the descendents of some of the "American Indians" will be taking back thier land when we become the majority in this nation.

13. It's just not going to happen
It's like wondering if East Prussians could get back their land. Both groups have moved and pretty much been absorbed into different populations.
