i skipped getting the newspaper today |
|
i need a break. so now, i'm reading don't know much about the civiL war by kenneth c. davis (i have to read constantLy throughout the day - yet another one of my quirks). it's a great book and i reccomend it even to non-history buffs.
i think i may be in the finaL stage - acceptance, aLthough i'm sure i'LL sLide back into rage a few times. for at Least a day or more, i'm going to take comfort in books (when i'm not here of course).
ps: any suggestions on books i can pick up?

1. Maybe you should go back and re-read the classics |
|
like 1984. Although I have a feeling that it's not so much a classic anymore as it is a how-to guide. :-)

2. Don't know if you like fantasy |
|
but it really helps me escape. I especially love Mercedes Lackey. Margaret Weiss, Tracey Hickman. I've read Davis' Don't Know Much About the Bible and enjoyed it. I'll give the history one a try now. I won't be doing any political reads for a time.

4. I tried to avoid it ... |
|
I had the BBC World Service on the car radio while I was out paying bills this morning, and Julian Marshall was interviewing some GOP spokesman, who was typically smug and condescending. I found myself screaming at the radio at the top of my lungs and finally had to shut it off.
Then I walked into the grocery store to pick up some index cards that my daughter needed for a class. I didn't bother to look at the front page of the paper as I walked by the news stand, but it was impossible to avoid the news card underneath the stack of papers: FOUR MORE YEARS in big white letters against a red background.
Now I'm back to being furious and depressed and nihilistic. I wish I could take solace in the fact that the Democratic Party has it's own mandate to oppose Generallisimo Arbusto and his Posse, but I know that's as likely as the Republicans offering to work together and unite the country.
