God DAMN IT!!
I hate this. People leaving DU. People...understandably...wanting to leave this country.

Gay people voting for Bush. Dumb fuck assholes living in states with huge job losses under this evil motherfucker voting for Bush. 18 -24 years olds knowing perfectly goddamned well that a draft IS coming...and they sit on their goddamned asses.

I can just feel the fabric of this country ripping apart right now.

The religious right at the very apex of power. They're setting the agenda now. With a resident of the White House (I will not use the "P" word) in complete agreement with them.

I...don't...know...what the fuck to do.

2. I'm. Still. Here.
And I'm not going anywhere. And I will make them pay for the way they have abandoned you and everyone else. I'm not jumping ship...I'm not moving away. I will only ship my son away if they try to come for him in 12 years...my daughter too for that matter. I have no president. I only have you guys...and I'm staying put.

Much love, and more sadness for how you must feel,

Laura

32. That is how I feel, but have not been able to put into words.
I will not let them stop me from fighting for my country & what I believe in my heart is right.
I will not let them turn me into one of them. I will not allow hate, fear, angry & bigotry to rule my life.
I will continue to fight for the rights of every American as well as for justice & compassion through out the world.
I will not let them change who I am or what I believe.
I will not allow their twisted idea of Christianity to contaminate my desire to learn from and strive to live by Christ's teaching.
I will not go quietly!

38. High Time!
"I will not allow their twisted idea of Christianity to contaminate my desire to learn from and strive to live by Christ's teaching."

It is TIME! It's time for the Left to EMBRACE religion.

It is wrong for the Right to have the power to define our relationships with God. It's wrong for them to control the People's access to God.

The Left must step up and speak for God. They are NOT more moral than us.

Step Two: Only back real Progressive Democrats. Appealing to the middle only shifts the debate to the right. The Republicans don't appeal to the middle, neither should we.

Step Three: Repeat step two.

12. Begin considering options that do not include voting as
the primary engine of change. We have a lot to learn from the labor movement of the early part of the 20th cent.

How to organize and implement, I don't know yet, but I definately feel as though voting must be considered a tool, but not a single or primary tool to drive social change. Direct action must be part and parcel to political life, and not just in terms of taking over the streets, but also including engaging in massively organized, focused economic strikes (selective purchasing, refusal to do business with anyone or any company that has supported conservative causes, etc.)

At least this is the direction I'm going... thoughts?

25. I fully agree
Corporations run this country and it's time to fact that fact. 55 million of us DIDN'T vote for these schmucks. That's a lot of money. And it's also a lot of employees and small business owners. We need to stop supporting fascism with our dollars. It may not be possible to completely boycott certain products and services but in another thread it was pointed out that if we just didn't buy stuff one day a week it would have a serious effect on the economy. I have cut up most of my credit cards and will cancel my cable (I tried yesterday but I was put on hold too many times). Keep sending out the lists of Shrub supporters and when you find one, post it here on DU.

I plan on staying, and will be visiting DU regularly, like I have been. Time to circle the wagons, and make them fight for every inch of ground. 19. It DOES suck but...
I think we have a pretty solid base to start with for the next time. The bullshit in this country has always been around and to be honest, I think we made a lot of headway in the last few years.
I feel a strong wind of change building up and I have a feeling that the people will take this country back from the assholes in office. Granted it will be a shitty four years, but the opportunities that we have right now can not be ignored. We are here at DU and in the next four years I'm sure we will get more of us here.

20. It's not just the gay crowd that I don't understand voting for Shithead.
There are a lot of other sectors that were duped en masse. I just don't see how anyone in good conscience could vote for that lying hypocrite SOB if they were; unemployed, paid by the hour (and no longer getting overtime), working two McJobs, a union member, Black, having kids in school (or having kids at all for that matter), needing medical care and not having health insurance, receiving or about to recieve Social Security, a veteran (I exclude the Swiftboat Liars here because I know what their agenda is), and yes, even the fundies. How could they fall for this snake-oil salesman's line of shit? It is just unbelievable. This is why I am leaning toward a voter fraud conspiracy. I certainly wouldn't put it past them. They have been caught red-handed too many times.

21. Heal My Ass!
Edited on Thu Nov-04-04 10:00 AM by gitchel
I was driving home from work, listening to NPR's recap of the speeches yesterday. First came Kerry's speech about healing the dangerous division. Then it got even worse. Next came the Prez:

"So today I want to speak to every person who voted for my opponent. To make this nation stronger and better, I will need your support and I will work to earn it. I will do all I can do to deserve your trust. A new term is a new opportunity to reach out to the whole nation. We have one country, one Constitution, and one future that binds us."

I was livid by this point. Now he needs my support?! He sure seemed rather cavalier about my support up to now. And now he’s going to “work to earn it”! Huh? I mean: “HUH?!?!” He’s going to do his best to deserve my trust!?

By this time, I should have just pulled to the side of the road. It was about now that I briefly considered jumping the curb and taking out a Bush/Cheney yard sign. Soon I was screaming and sputtering and shouting like an epileptic Vice President. What condescension! What arrogance! What hubris!

It wasn’t until I thought about it a bit - after a medicinal application of eggs, pancakes and sausage - that I realized what these two were finally agreeing on. Someone had noticed how angry we were! There were nearly 56 million people who felt they had been shut out. Millions felt like they’d been cheated. Lied to. Blown off. Ridiculed.

The Left had come together - organized - like never before. So thoroughly that Nader got only 300,000 votes nation-wide. Organized to do one thing: overthrow the current administration of the United States of America. That’s pretty scary, eh? Add the fact that African-Americans vote 90% against the current administration, and it’s easy to start reminiscing about the Summer of 1965 in Watts.

That was what was prompting these perceptual forays into Bizzaro World. They were afraid of millions of angry citizens rioting in the streets. Or worse.

“One country, one Constitution, and one future that binds us.” Yeah. Right. It binds us alright. In perfect opposition. I will never “find common ground” with people who cherish and cultivate lies. I will never trust someone who has worked so hard to make me out as ungodly, evil, silly, unpatriotic, traitorous and a flat-out terrorist wanna-be. And I have committed to defend my Constitution from “all enemies”, foreign and domestic. This includes would-be Kings who purposely manipulate the amendment processes of 11 state constitutions just so they can finally get the Evangelicals off their lazy asses to vote Republican and “defend the sanctity” of that most disposable of all American institutions: marriage.

And now they want to form a relationship with me?! I hardly think so.

See you in the streets, Georgie.

22. Terry, take comfort in numbers.
Count the people in your immediate community, all of your friends and neighbors, whom you know are just as mad as you are.

Then count the people here at DU and don't think about the ones who are leaving. They can't take it and I can't blame them -- but so far, we CAN take it.

Then count the number of people who voted Kerry/Edwards.

Take comfort in numbers.

And now, look to the mid-terms. We have a lot of work to do. When depressed, ACT.

Progressives always win in the end, or we would still have slavery, and women wouldn't be allowed to ride bicycles, much less vote.

I suggest everyone try to tune in every so often to Air America, it's uplifting for me, anyway.

36. I ain't leavin'
I'm staying. DU, via the internet. has given me access to more verifiable political information that I've ever had in my life. I know where to turn, who to fight, and when to fight thanks to this website and others. I haven't felt this sick since reagan won his second term, and I know we are STILL paying for some of his bullshit, and he's dead. But I know I stand for something important! I refuse to give in. I'm going tee shirt shopping for one small instance. I'm gonna purchase obnoxious to poignant tee shirts expressing my political views. And wear them often. I will never, ever be politically uninvolved again--like I was before bush stole the Presidency. Oh, I hated what they did to President Clinton, and spoke my mind--but I wasn't involved. Two of my children voted for the very first time this year--for Kerry. They are interested and involved because I am. My oldest daughter is in Afghanistan. She's coming home a Democrat. (please God, let her come home safe, and on time)bush is STILL and imbecile, and clueless. I plan on pointing that out every chance I get. I'm on the edge of my seat right now, because my state has a chance at having a Democrat women Governor, along with 2 democrat women state senators. First time in history! We are Half of this country and we have a voice. Man, I more pissed than depressed! I'm looking for action. DU, we did, and can, and will continue to make a difference!
