Out in the "real" world I have a great deal of difficulty discerning anyone's "intent." The way I survive is by not really giving a damn what anyone's "intent" towards me is.

Generally, I can discern intent from the written word, but not quickly. I don't use "Instant Messaging" because I always get into trouble misjudging peoples' intent.

I think my personal limitations have made me very aware of the power of certain words. "Bitch" is one of those words that should never be tossed about for fun, except in very intimate company, and usually as a description of one's own behavior.

No matter what some of you think, DU is not an intimate places where such words can safely be used, except as a description of one's own behavior. It is generally safe to say something like "I'm feeling bitchy today," but it's never safe to use that sort of word as a description of somebody else, especially someone you know only by their online personality.
