Time for some Velma tough love |
|
This sank like a stone in GD. Figured I'd post it in here where maybe someone will read it.
I am normally a very empathetic person...I feel bad when others suffer - that's a hallmark of being a liberal. But no more. From now on I'm asking people who they voted for.
Lost your job. You voted for Bush. Tough shit.
Kid got sent off to war and got hurt (or heaven forbid killed). You voted for Bush. Tough shit.
Can't afford health care. You voted for Bush. Tough shit.
Huge corporation ran your mom and pop store out of business. You voted for Bush. Tough shit.
Your property taxes are through the roof to make up local budget shortfalls. You voted for Bush. Tough shit.
Gasoline is over 3 bucks a gallon and you can't really afford it. You voted for Bush. Tough shit.
The list is endless. Deep down I may still feel sorry for people because that's just who I am...but I'm not EVER letting them know that. They voted for this bullshit and now they can reap the fucking results.

7. I hate to say this but I went off on my Mother last night |
|
She called to say she was sorry and that she felt for us and I was civil. Then she started into "I was very concerned about what would happen if KERRY was elected..." I cut her off and read her the riot act telling her that she bought into the campaign of fear and that I didn't want to hear anymore whining or crying about things THIS IS YOUR FAULT "Yeah but things changed..." THINGS CHANGED BECAUSE THEY FAILED TO PROTECT THIS COUNTRY STOP BUYING INTO TO BLAMING SOMEONE ELSE FOR THIS.
I did apologize but she got the message.

I will still help them if I can but maybe I will just let it slip that I voted for Kerry and that if he had won maybe none of us would be in a situation needing sympathy.

the karmic consequences of their behavior.
on edit: I'm not saying I'm going to be mean to people about this. I will try to get the point across in a way that opens a dialogue about how their life would be better if they wouldn't vote against their own interests. But I will not sugar-coat the truth that they brought their troubles on themselves.

17. My thoughts exactly!! |
|
I was just saying the same things to my husband as I was reading your post. I am so angry, I am in tears. This election was decided by people who don't have a clue what is really going on in the country. The only thing they are concerned about is their own self-interests and that gays are not allowed to be married.
I am usually a very empathetic person, but right now, I hope they all get what they deserve. The only problem is that those of us who voted against this administration will be affected by everything that happens.

18. Hey! I was thinking along the same lines myself! |
|
In fact, I used that strategy once a couple years back, before I cut off contact with a former friend who is a Republican. Her mom is a retiree, and suddenly started having health problems. This friend was bitching about the lousy service (long waits, cost of Rx, etc), and I let her have it. I said she had NO RIGHT to complain about lack of ANY kind of social services, because it was HER FAULT as a Republican that her mother got less than adequate care. I especially let her have it for bitching when SHE makes a 6 figure salary and still thinks she can complain about it. Oh, even thinking about it now just makes me LIVID!!!

20. I absolutely agree with you |
|
And I'd already made up my mind to do the same. I have two brothers, a dad and a daughter who voted for the idiot. None of them are in the best of circumstances - my older brother has serious health conditions, my younger brother has a job with no benefits, my dad is a retiree and my daughter is barely making ends meet.
I cannot waste my time feeling sorry for them when things go bad. Nor will I be there to help when inevitably my daughter gets into difficulties. It will be, "Sorry but you've lectured me on 'personal responsibility', you voted for Bush and now you're paying the price."
I won't get any satisfaction out of that at all but perhaps if they have to lay in the bed they've made, they'll start to see. Perhaps.

because I have decided that I'm not talking to Repubs unless I have to for work. They aren't allowed to be a part of my life. Anyone who actively works against my best interests is not my friend.
That said, sorry you had to lose your friend.

This was posted in editorials by Tedthebear. This young lady is quite the writer. Your post put me in mind of her, and of Churchill's "Never, never never give up". (That's more of a paraphrase than an actual quote.) http://www.informationclearinghouse.info/article7208.htm
