Fuck them. My sexual orientation isn't up for their popularity contest.
Never has been, never will be.

You see, regardless of how hard they try, who I am is not up for a debate.

Oh sure, they can make a few things more difficult in my life, but when push comes to shove, their stupid little rule against gays in the military didn't stop me from serving. There stupid little rules about marriage aren't going to stop me from continuing to enjoy a relationship that has existed longer than my straight brother's marriage, almost as long as both my straight father's marriages, longer than any of my straight oldest brothers pathetic failed relationships and longer than any of that drug addicted fuck Rush Limbaugh's marriages.

Do I like it? No, when push comes to shove, I learned pretty early in adulthood that I really don't require anybody's approval. Once in awhile they sneak one in that hurts, such as my brother who basically hid my existence from his children so as not to expose them to my "lifestyle". As I see it, he's not only a bigot, but a liar and pretender himself. Not to mention he is only fooling himself with those kinds of antics. I washed my hands of him when he told me it was his wife's wishes only to have his wife (who I barely know but seems like a nice lady) turn around and tell me that it most certainly wasn't anything she suggested.

So what the hell. My life will go on much the same as did before they tried to put my existance up to vote.

In the final analysis, if I can deal from with bigotry from my own family, the bigotry of some nameless masses who think they can please their God by their futile attempts to legislate who I am comes in pretty fucking low on my list of concerns.

So as I said, fuck them. I gotten this far in life as have millions before me without their approval and I'll survive this as well.

My life, my being, my love isn't up for little popularity contest.

1. Right on
And if I hear any liberals (I haven't here, but heard some rumblings on the news last night) that justice for GLBT people lost this election for us, I'll reach out to them just like I'm reaching out to Bush* today.

Straight person on your side.

4. Agreed. We don't beat them by being like them.
We stand or fall on our issues. If 52% of America disagrees, so be it, but what have we won if we sacrifice what we stand for to do it?

5. And let me just add this....
Their pathetic attempts to demonize and destroy that which they don't understand says absolutely NOTHING about me, but speaks absolute volumes about the voids in their own self-worth.

6. I'm going to say this now:
I'm always going to be for homosexual rights. I'm always going to be for women's rights. I'm not going to give up my beliefs just to get some people on our side.

Fuck those who think homosexuality is wrong. Pandering to them is not worth it.

7. Exactly...if all gays disappeared off the face of the earth today...
...they'd find another target to make them feel better about their own inadequacies.

8. Before I turned the news off for good, I heard the republican spinners
claim that the idiot won because he was such a great leader. It was at that point I said fuck the news. A great leader leads the entire nation. A great leader wins on performance. A great leader offers hope instead of fear. There isn't anything great about a divided nation and there certainly isn't anything great about winning by marginalizing an entire segment of society and playing to peoples fear and hatred.

I am sorry and angry that this administration put your lifestyle on the line for political points. This "win" of his is just as illegitimate as his "win" in 2000. If you have to win by fear, marginalization and ignorance, that shouldn't be a victory to celebrate. You have my support 100%. I want to fight the bigotry in this country right along side you. I am proud to be a democrat but embarrassed for my country right now.

9. Yes. Hitler won by scapegoating the Jews.
No matter how hard the American people try, we aren't really any better than the "good people" of Germany circa 1930. They allowed themselves to be led into the abyss by responding to appeals to their fears, their patriotism, and their barely contained hatred. When people allow themselves to be herded by their prejudices they show themselves to be the same.

Oh, they'll make excuses for their hatred and try to distance themselves by trying to say "it's different", but the bottom line is comes from exactly the same place.

10. The only consolation I get from all of this is that it only works
for awhile. One of the last battles that was fought was the civil rights battle. The republicans opposed civil rights and their opposition only worked for awhile and after a long, hard fought battle, they lost. They will lose again, of that I am certain.

If they got their conformist wishes, what an unbearably dull world it would be.
