Jammed With A Celeb On Friday Night
Well sort, of. My drummer is a friend of the drummer in Grade Eight (Scott), who has been on the Ozfest tour the past several months. They used to be called Greta.

He's back home to cool down and he stopped by Friday night at my drummer's house. We jammed with him. He's loud, but really solid and an incredibly quick study.

We don't do typical rock fare, but he figured out how to fit right in within a few bars.

Really nice guy, too. He said he enjoyed it a lot, since it was so different than what he's used to playing, and it was fun playing with a good player, who because of his schedule, really had his chops together.

We listened to their new album. It's really good! I'm not that into that heavy subsonic, rap/metal thing, but this was wonderfully produced and some clever stuff on it.

You metal fan DU'ers might want to check it out.

1. Did you have to crank it up to 11?
Being introduced to sane drummers is a rarity. And I've been pretty lucky in this regard.

2. I've Been Lucky, Too!
I've played with some good ones. Jimmy Chamberlin, for one. The first band Jimmy was ever in was mine. He was about 16 at the time, and he played about 3 parts of songs, and i said "That's enough, do you want to be in the band or not?"

The drummer i've been playing with since 1986 is a monster player, and is one of my best friends. So, that's really lucky! Good drummer and good friend in the same person!

Scott was LOUD!!!! He plays at least 10dB louder than John, so yes, we did have to turn up the bass, guitar and the PA a bit. Not ridiculously, but some! From 4 to 5, but not to 11!

If you haven't heard these guys, they're really good. They have a real clever bit on the new album in which they use a sample lift of Rare Earth's "Celebrate". Scott has it sampled, plays to a click, and hits a trigger pad when they need the chorus chant. It's really good! Sort of Rage Against the Machine meets Rare Earth.
