Thank god, thank the Universe, my son wont be deployed
He just told me last night. He did his 6 years, and he wont be forced to go over to the Sinai..his National Guard duty is finally over, as it should have been in Nov, and he worked very hard not to be sent over. Many of the units are being shipped over there and then to Iraq, he said. Just knowing he is going to be OUT of the military, and safe, and OUT of this damned administration;s bloody hands...
I am just so grateful right now. He worked very hard to get his LEGAL due date in Nov his last day in the guard, even tho they kept telling him they were going to make him stay and re enlist him.
Lawyer, etc..it worked, hes getting out, and I can breathe easy.

4. I'm happy for you
Was reading another thread - somone was speculating about the draft. If my son were to be drafted - I would have a really difficult time.

5. I know exactly how you feel....
My son left the National Guard a couple of months before 9/11. I still kept bugging him "Are you SURE they can't drag you back?" Drove him crazy. I thank God every day he got out when he did. I can't imagine how I'd have felt if I had to go through the past two years with him still in the Guard. I'm so glad your son is getting out.

6. I don't want to rain on anyone's parade but...
After I completed my term of service, active and reserve, I thought I was all done, until someone pointed out a small clause to me that said should conditions warrant it I can be recalled at any time. So, once you sign on the dotted line, thy pretty much own you for life should the need arise.

Here it is some 8 years later and I've never heard a buzz and don't expect to, but I think people should have all of the available information possible about any topic.

7. some of his friends died in Iraq
I know that he wont vote for Bush.,,nor will many of the men in his unit...Bush has screwed over the military far too much...they are truly pissed.

9. Yep. I wasn't gonna say anything, but
if it still works the same way it used to you're in the inactive reserves for several (or a few?) years. I recently read about a guy who had some special (needed) MOS who got activated from the inactive reserves. He said it was the shock of his life. Think he was in his 40s and thought his military days were long gone. I didn't get my honorable discharge certificate until years after I was out of the guard.
