Republicans: the "FUCK YOU, I GOT MINE" party.
Let's get that started as a "meme" and implant it into the nation's psyche.

1. a friend of mine
who is a staunch neoconservative mentioned this as his main motivation for voting Republican. It is a true sentiment among a lot of neoconservatives.

Not just to join the bandwagon, but my Bush-voting friend is pretty much all about himself.

5. Yup...
Although my friend is in the tax bracket where he really is reaping the rewards of these policies, most don't realize that their financial interests are not being helped. It's so annoying and sad...

6. Actually their morals are all based around the three G's...

...god, guns, and gays. I have a very good friend, who is unfortunately extremely conservative, and the homophobia is at the top of his agenda. Doesn't think gays should be able to adopt kids, shouldn't be able to teach in schools, etc. It's not his fault actually, the guy is just deep in the closet, that's why he thinks homosexuality is a choice. He has been fighting how he was born all his life, and thinks everyone is attracted to the same sex like he is, and keeps denying it, so to him it IS a choice.

Guns and god are next on his priority list...

7. hmm...
interestingly, my neoconservative friend also goes on and on about gay marriage and how disgusting gays are in general. He's not terribly religious or into guns, but damn, he hates gay people. I never could understand it, but I do think the gay issue was HUGE in this election. Most of the folks I work with and know have a severely negative view of homosexuality. I think it played a much larger part of this election than many thought.

4. I always thought of them as the...
..."liberty for me, and fuck everyone else" party.

Oops, I'm sorry, that's the libertarians.

8. Ever see the 60s western "Five Card Stud"?
In it Roddy McDowell plays a spoiled rotten son of a rancher. He has a classic quote: "I've got just one rule: me first, nobody second."
I saw this movie when i was a little kid and never since (it wasn't all that good, actually)...But that line always stuck in my mind to this day! A perfect Republican attitude!
