just that the poster is gay. I think it's bad form for him to post what he posted, but I think he's seen enough 'why are we suddenly the party of abortion and gay rights' posts today, and may feel like he's being attacked.

I could be wrong -- I'm willing to admit that -- but it could also be that the poster's just very hurt and publicly reevaluating his place in the whole process (which usually isn't a very smart thing to do, but we sometimes do it), and venting here in ways that make him unpleasant. I've seen plenty of it the past couple of days.

Not necessarily defending him -- just saying he is gay, so take that into consideration. That's all.

I just wonder if it's not a meltdown of some kind or other -- a lot of people have attacked the poster, both in that thread and other places. It's a pretty dumb thing to post at this point, especially -- as an agnostic, though, I'm beginning to feel a little harried over the 'get with the program, everybody's a Christian except you!' shit. But, then, I know damned well the progressive left is the only home I have, so I wouldn't be stupid enough to post something like "should atheists and agnostics leave the Democratic party so Democrats can be elected?"

It was stupid, but I think a lot of people are melting down psychologically right now.

day here at DU. I've come across two threads essentially blaming gays for this election fiasco and that's two too many. The problem is, this country has swung far to the right since 911 because people are scared. Hell, they were scared before 911 if you take into account the Y2K hype. Bush and his administration have been feeding this nation's fears. It's the oldest trick in the book for those obsessed with dominance and power over their fellow man.

We still haven't evolved enough in order to shed our tribal ways or the superstitions that make us blame and persecute the minority group if things seem to be going wrong in our society.

Fundies actually blame certain groups of people for their misfortunes, apparently worshipping a god who believes in collective punishment rather than justice and fairness.

Anyone who thinks the gays should leave our party should probably consider leaving it themselves. We don't want your kind of bigotry.
