I suggest the Democrats first major legislative proposal, complete with press conferences, laser show, hunger strike, whatever, is the "Tax Fairness Act of 2005." This Act would mandate that, within some reasonable margin of error, your state should get as much back from the feds as is sent to them in taxes. It's time to end this kind of geographic welfare!

I absolutely and totally agree with it.

Let me keep my tax dollars for New Jersey and if I like,
they can go to help fund stem cell research, education,
homeland security (NJ is 41st in Homeland Security funding),
environmental, water, air, wind power, biomass for energy generation
etc.

Let Wyoming the home of Dick Cheney and the other red states
pay themselves for their roads, their environment, their health
care, their education from their own pockets, not mine.

And if I want to allow domestic partnerships or marriage in New Jersey, I'll will reap their economic benefits - costs for rings, catering,
hall rental, tuxedo and bridal rental, flowers, hotels and pour that money back into my state not ship it to the Feds to be
distributed to people who have a lower tax burden.

Can we get Charles Rangel to put this bill in?
