So I put together this surprise 60th birthday party for my Mom.
It's today. Of course, because I've been here all week I've got nothing done with regards to it. I was going to put together a scrap book...not done. I need table cloths...nope..not done. You get the picture. Anyway this was not something I wanted to do. I wanted a nice quiet dinner. I was going to have my mom picked up in a limo because she's never ever been in one. My brother (in CA) got the idea of the surprise party...to which he would show up at. Invitations went out and we didn't get that great of a response from my mom's friends, but all my in laws (her favorite people in the world :eyes:) are going to be there. Welp, the kicker was last night. My brother called and HE's not going to be able to make it either. So this is my self pity rant. I'm feeling sorry for myself. Grrrr. Shame on me. And my mom is mad at me because she thinks we blew off her birthday. In our family, you've gotta do something pretty spectacular to earn the love. It's enough to make me almost laugh like a madwoman.

Good Morning DU...would ya like some coffee? :hi:

1. Revise your plans and do what YOU wanted to do in the first place

Call the inlaws..cancel.. invite to a barbeque in the future..
call the friends who rsvp'ed and tell them the plans have changed.. have them meet you at the restaurant about an hour after YOU get there...they are invited for dessert..not dinner (saves you some $$)

call for a limo (you can still get one).. make reservations at a cool place and tell them it's her birthday..(they'll probably whip up a birthday goodie for her.)

Get her a gift certificate at a day-spa, and maybe another for a nice department store she likes..

Make it the way YOU wanted it.. and don';t beat yourself up :)

3. Good idea SoCalDem.
Thanks for your input. The crappiness of this week has just spilled over into everything. :hi: Thanks Again.

2. Out on a limb here, not knowing the family dynamics...
So, what if you didn't work so hard at it? What if, say, you took your mom out, just the two of you, for something special and memorable? I'm thinking, like, is there a high-tea parlor anywhere nearby?

No, no, no, I am not being facetious. Leave the family to their own devices, and create something different, that's just yours.

4. Thanks Sappho, for the idea.
I was originally going to take her to dinner and a show. Maybe I'll still do that afterward. Thanks again.
