I stand with them too but I do wish they had chosen a year other than then most important election of our lifetime to push the marriage issue. They should have waited until AFTER the election. That one issue was the MOST deciding factor in this race and even though John Kerry was (or said he was) against gay marriage but supported equal rights noone on the christian right believed him because of his refusal on supporting a constitutional amendment. I may take a lot of heat for this but THAT issue is what cost us the election. These better than thou christians are getting stronger and stronger and are going to be insisting on more and more power. We want...and rightfully expect...the same rights as you heterosexuals have. Gay and lesbian couples who do not have the same rights as heterosexual married couples can be in a world of grief...partners who die and the other partner is shunted off by the family of the dead partner. Health insurance issues. Tax issues. As it stands right now, if a gay or lesbian couple wants to get married, sure, they could go to some non-denominational church and get married. But that couple will have ZERO legal protections.

As George W. Bush has said, ad nauseum throughout the campaign, there have been some judges, such as the Massachusetts Supreme Court, that have acted on legal challenges by gay people, they have looked at the law, and they have rightfully concluded that there is NO legal right to deny gay and lesbian couples the right to have their marriages legally recognized. The law, as it stands right now, is COMPLETELY on our side on this issue.

As long as there is no legal impediment, we should and must have the same legal right to marry as you do. That is plain and simple. And, goddammit, I am NOT going to be a "good little boy" and wait, and beg, "oh, pretty, pretty please, give us our marriage rights, ok? And I'll be just, oh so patient and wait until you say it's ok. I am NOT going to sit at the back of the bus on this issue.

Thanks for saying that so well, terrya. It pisses me off that my partner (of 11 years and counting) and I have to pay thousands of dollars in legal fees to get the same legal rights as married couples. And then, Georgia passes a law that some say could void those legal agreements.

As to the suggestion by Clare_beth that we should wait for the "right" time - just exactly when might that be? I'm still waiting on my copy of the agenda for the big gay rights plan to "advance our causes". It's a damn shame when equal rights is considered a given for some and a "cause" for others.

He's only 7 weeks old and he sleeps through the night. This week he started eating more each feeding, and having fewer feedings each day. Such a difference after literally weeks of cluster feeding.

This morning he woke up without crying. He just woke up and looked around, smiled, cooed, and waited patiently to be changed and fed.

He is big for his age.

He's just wonderful. And he has really saved my life. I don't know what I'd have done this week without him.

However, the time is NOW. It's not WHEN you will be called to fight. It's imperative that you see the time is now. Currently, all is quiet with this administration and with the mechanations that they are planning to take. Furthermore, they made it quite clear in their speeches on television and with the commentators, such as Buchanan, where they stand. It was not US who made and pushed for the issue, it was THEM who used the issue as their wedge to get the vote to take the election. What is sad is that they have probably awakened the monster that they did not wish to wake up. If they thought Stonewall was pivotal, I am fearing that Stonewall and the Rebellion there will look like a cake walk compared to this sleeping monster.

This is not the time to draw lines within our own group. It's one thing to say that you're with us here--but your actions will speak louder than the postings. And, to add to this...it is not the time for those of you who are hetero identifed to make that phrase "As a heterosexual. . ." This phrase shows that their division tactics are working because you are still making a seperation between YOU and US. This is how they have undermined feminism, Black rights, and any other sort of rights. (If you don't believe me, just ask some young girl if she is a feminist. Chances are she will say to you, "I am a feminist, but. . . " meaning that she is for equal rights but she's not a radical feminazi as the Repukes and Rush and Company have redefined what a Feminist means). We cannot have division within our own ranks. The Religous Right has proven that to us already. Their actions have made it possible for our response. I, for one, have already been seeing many GLBT persons contemplating a move overseas or to Canada. Of course, there are some out there who will say..this is America, if you don't like it, get out. I will not get out--although I considered it. I will stand and fight this with more ferocity than they can imagine.

I recently encouraged my sister-in-law to come out to the rest of the family. She had been avoiding it for 30+ years. Guess what? Everyone had the same reaction: no big deal, we love you just the same. Her father even invited her and her new partner up to his place for the weekend. On the other hand my Aunt has been closeted for 60+ years and remains so. She has become a recluse.
